Hi Heath17,
We are a little biased on this forum, but for us NZ wins hands down, no scary creepy crawlies for a start, i'd be worried to let my kids out in OZ, weather a little more bearable in the summer, beautiful scenery, great people, friendly, I guess it's a matter of weighing it all up, better to do it now before you leave i'd say, good luck with your decision :icon_biggrin:

Hi Heath17,
The question you should be asking yourself now, after reading this forum, is 'could I put up with all these loonies?!'

Oh yes, we'll all be there at some stage!

Like Lisa said, NZ is the obvious winner for us lot, but we each have our own reasons as to why.

So, tell us what you want out of moving abroad, and we'll all help you decide :icon_lol:

(We're nice like that :icon_wink: )

Wow, quick replies! Nice to know some of you are 'loonies' Taffy! Erm, reasons for emigrating to a better place would have to be warmer climate, a more relaxed way of life, friendlier people, bigger house, loads to see and do ... we live 20 mins out of London so we can have loads to do, but there's always the added hassles of gazillions of people, trains, tubes, cabs, expense when you have 2 children. One of my main reasons is to be able to be in a better place to bring up the children, 2 sons, 1 is 13, so he's just about 'up', and one will be 6 next week. The 13 year old is great, BUT is so materialistic it's unbelievable, has to have all the latest gear etc. I don't fancy my youngest being exposed to all that.
I moved down South from the NE 5 years ago, and I find everyone is sooooo competitive here, bigger this, better that, and I just want to escape that ... but not back to the NE!!
Ideally, a warmer place with stacks to offer my children, a good education, and a decent life. Opportunities and the experience of living elsewhere would be great.

We've paid a couple of grand to our agent in Oz, using a fast track service as I'm 40 in Nov and points reduce by 5, so our Visa would be limited, as in they tell us which area we can live, that puts me off. I think if both countries came up with a visa, I'd opt for NZ. Perhaps getting a few friends like you lot will help as I haven't joined any Oz forums ... an omen perhaps?!

Can you tell I'm a geordie gasbag!!? That's what my colleagues call me.
Thanks for the replies.

Wow, I was surprised to see this thread had 12 replies. Thought I was really popular, then I saw that it was just Steve mumbling incoherently (uh oh, the icons appear broke)

I hope you mother is OK :icon_sad: [/quote:111625567e]

I appreciate the sentiment. Mum is doing much better - she had back surgery, so she just needs some time to recover and do some physical therapy.

[quote:111625567e]
Congratulations :icon_biggrin: :icon_biggrin: :icon_biggrin: [/quote:111625567e]

Thanks. It's a step in the right direction, but it doesn't feel like much at the moment. When I try to explain it to people, it really seems insignificant: "Yeah, so basically they "Selected" me to review the claims I've made, and then will decide whether they want to INVITE me to apply for residency". Ugh.

[quote:111625567e]
So I'm hoping to learn from them what and when things happen.
I'll let you know.
You should get a standard letter of confirmation in 2 weeks.
[/quote:111625567e]

That's a good idea. It will be good to have others paving the way so I know what to expect.

drumminj,
Yeh, I've always worried that you say something in jest and the smiley face isn't there and it looks really bad :icon_eek: icon_exclaim.gif

Yeh, they're right, you've JUST been selected.
Well, it sure didn't feel like JUST to me when I saw that one little word.
I guess they don't understand what it means to you.
Maybe if they read the multi-page thread to get you those 5 points they'd understand.
I'm glad that's over !

Yep, I'm hoping the front of the chain will have some good news sometime soon.

Cheers all

Steve

I'm glad you picked up that I was joking. Wouldn't want to unintentionally insult anyone.

Well, we have yet to see if that thread accomplished anything positive. Sure, I spent $150 and have filled out a form. But we need to see if they actually give me those five points. It's like a good suspenseful movie! :icon_eek: icon_exclaim.gif

Thanks, Lisa. Hopefully everything will proceed, and I can continue working with my current company rather than finding a new job in NZ. It'd be nice to at least contract back to them for a few months while I get settled. Still way too many variables, and too much to think about. :icon_eek: icon_exclaim.gif

Steve, We were also selected on the 1st September batch with 115 points.
Had the letter and waiting with the rest of you for the invite! Not forgetting the trail of paperwork and chasing of medicals etc that will follow. All part of the fun though? Eh?
Great to see new people with new stories and thoughts regarding all this application business :icon_cool:
Good luck one and all,
Presley
