Default School time tables

HI,
I know the start of the new term in NZ begins in January, but can anyone tell me more about the school time table?
How many weeks holiday do the kids get? Do they have a 6 weeks holiday and what are the start/finish times to the day?
Tried looking on the net, but cant really find anything to help me.
Cheers :icon_biggrin:

I notice that schools are open for almost the whole year, except for some 2-week breaks in between terms. Are students normally expected to attend all 4 terms per year, or just 3?

LOL!
Definitley all 4 terms, if they want to pass their courses that is.
There is 7 weeks of holiday from early Dec till early Feb however.

Coming in the next couple of years (2006) is a return back to 3 term years. This is so the school sport teams can meet for competitions during one of the 3 week breaks around July.

Holidays were traditionally based around the fruitpicking season :) But that original reason has been lost.

It might sound like a funny question, but that's how some schools, especially universities, are organized in the US. 3 semesters per year, but each student is only expected to attend 2. Or 4 quarters per year and each individual normally attends 3. Those who attend all terms are either students who failed something in the other terms and need to catch up, or those who want to graduate faster than their peers.

OK I had never heard of that before.

In total we teach for 37 weeks a year. Which i think is typical world wide.
