Hi there. Thanks for this site. It looks very useful.

My wife and I (+2 kids) were selected on 1-Sep-04 on 120 points without job offers. She is a teacher and I'm in IT/Finance in London, UK. She is the principal applicant and we're in the process of registering her with the relevant authorities in NZ. Now that I've let my boss know I'll be leaving sometime soon I've been offered the chance to setup a branch office in NZ. Our company already has a similar arrangement in Singapore. I was kind of hoping however to stay at home, look after the kids and study for a part-time MBA at Canterbury University (Christchurch). It's all a little complicated but on balance we've got some good options. Any advice would be very welcomed. :icon_biggrin:

Hi Eco,

Sounds like your spoilt for choice! Congrats on being selected :icon_biggrin:

Could you set up the NZ branch and then hire someone to manage it for you? I guess that could take a while though. I guess it depends on your reasons for moving out. It sounds like you have your heart set on going back to school and sppending more time with ya kids. If money isn't going to be an issue, I'd take the stress free option (as stress free as looking after two bairns is! ) :icon_eek: icon_exclaim.gif

If you do decide to set up a company though and you need a Senior Software Developer, let me know!

Hi eco,

If you did wish to open an NZ branch of the company, you would have to apply for the Long Term Business Visa, which is quite a stressful route to take, and I'm not sure how it would affect your wifes application, as they are two different immigration routes.

Unless, of course, you wait until you secure residency, and then you can start all the companies you want!
