Hi Guys,

Now that we've been selected (yay!) I've been looking at timescales for getting our visa and when we move out. Everything looks OK apart from on thing......

We plan to go on a wee jolly in Nov 05 but don't intend to move till Spring 06. If we have our visa in our passport before Nov 05 (fingers crossed) is it going to cause huge probs going for a wee visit? I know you get your 1st returning visa when you get your residencey visa, but will be allowed to visit before we move for good?

I guess we'll have to check with NZIS, but any thoughts?

Milliemoo

I was actually thinking of this exact thing earlier today.

I plan on taking a trip to look for a job regardless of whether I have my PR or not. But if I do, how do they handle it?

Report back, if you hear from NZIS.

Milliemoo,

The NZIS site has this information about leaving and returing to NZ but it seems to assume you have taken your residency, I would use the question/answer service on their site to clarify the situation.

Leaving New Zealand for a trip or holiday
You may be ready to go for a holiday overseas; or maybe you need to travel to see friends and family? If so, you?ll need to know all about Returning Resident?s Visas.

If you have a Returning Resident?s Permit, the Returning Resident's Visa gives you the right to resume their residence status when you return to New Zealand.

Your first Returning Resident?s Visa is valid for two years. After that, if you wish to travel overseas and then return to New Zealand, you will most likely need to apply for a Returning Resident?s Visa. A second Returning Resident?s Visa is, in general, valid indefinitely provided you have shown commitment to New Zealand over the two years before you apply.

Hi,

This is the responce I got from NZIS:

Dear Catherine
Thank you for taking advantage of our Online Help facility.
The returning resident's visa should be for multiple entry, which means you may enter New Zealand as many times as you wish while the visa is valid.
Yours sincerely,
Rebecca Oliver
Customer Service Officer
New Zealand Immigration Service

I'm not sure she understood what we ment????? I think it'll be OK, but I'm going to check again (speak to someone in person) nearer the time.
