Default Shippers in the UK

Hi all

We are in the process of calling shippers for quotes and if anyone out there could recommend a reputable, reasonably priced company i'd be so grateful, experiences would be welcome too. Thanks

Lisa

Ok,

I've done a fair bit of research on this and i've contacted Anglo Pacific and Crown relocations they are coming to visit over the next two weeks, so i'll keep you all posted, in the meantime if anyone has any other recommendations i would gladly try a third, i think it would be wise to get three quotes.
Cheers

Hi Lisa,
Have a look at http://www.johnmason.com

I've heard that they are a reliable company, but not had any experience with them personally.

Lisa,
You could try all the companies on my list.
If I'd heard anything reliably bad about any of them I'd have put it down.
So I guess they all have their little problems, but none more than others.

Click on "Sea Freight"

Also, you may save money getting separate insurance (so they say !)

"Sea Freight Insurance"

I think an insulated container is better for kepping your stuff in good condition. You can use bubble wrap in them.

Good luck

Steve

Default INSULATED CONTAINERS

Anyone using an insulated container (reefer) should first make sure it has been cleaned out and is also dry and odour free. Reefers are normally chilled to carry perishable goods such as foodstuff etc. In the case of NZ, reefers coming in could possibly have been used to carry meat products. If they are on the return journey and you are using one, any moisture or odour in the container could create problems for your goods. It is unlikely that the shippers would have the generator set switched on. Some shipping lines may suggest using a reefer instead of a standard container if they want to ship their reefers back. Reefers are also slightly smaller internally due to insulation. However I cannot see any benefit for using a reefer against a standard container as it does not offer any further protection to goods inside unless dropped or suffers an impact. If your goods are not properly wrapped and packed they will still suffer damage if an accident occurs or should your goods move inside the reefer whilst in transit. Better to have your goods professionally export packed so there are no anguments with insurance claims. As far as any water element is concerned, standard containers should be water tight, just check the seals. With reefers, if water cannot get in, moisture cannot get out.

Regards
Peter :icon_biggrin:

Lisa,
Have you checked the photos on the Anglo Pacific container that Martyn got ?

Peter,
It's interesting what you say about the need for cleaning.
If you check these pictures, you'll see what happened to one person's stuff.
That's now well known in the forums !

Martyn Vizzavi ? Including pictures of the state of his stuff after being shipped by Anglo Pacific
http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/mar...zavi/my_photos

His car 'may' have been loaded wet - and as you say, the moisture can't get out !

I think the advantage of using a reefer what that the temperature changes are, at least, slightly reduced.
I know if you put an insulated container in the desert it's going to get up to desert temperature inside eventually.
But, if the container is travelling by day & night, the hot/cold cycle will be reduced inside the container.
I believe that's why people think their goods will arrive in better condition with a reefer.

Cheers

Steve
