Default POL - IT Catergories ??????

Right then,

I've just spoken to a nice lady at NZ house who has confirmed the following:

* The required IT Skills and levels for the IT specialist roles eg: Dreamweaver, Jave C++ etc are there for a guide only. I think the best thing to do is include absolutely everything you have experience in even if it's quite limited. Also be sure to include any project leader/team manager experience, because they won't class you as 'Senior' unless they can see some managerial experience.
* If your going down the IT route and want to claim bonus points for 'absolute skills shortage' you will need a degree in Computer Science and a min 5 yrs work experince in IT relating to your degree.

* NOTE * the above is only relavent if your are trying to claim points for being on the POL. If you've checked the requirements on the POL and looked at the information above, and realised you can't claim the bonus points, you can still apply under the Skilled Migrent catergory.

Here's some other questions I asked, which people might be interested in:

- She also confirmed that you only have to list immediate family on the EOI form.
- Although they ask for your employers contact details on the EOI, it's unlikely that they will contact them at this stage.
- If you get married half way through the process, this doesn't any significant problems. You just need to let them know and send in your marrige certificate.

Sooooooooo this means we can claim for our bonus points in 'Future Growth Area' and 'Abslute Skills Shortage'. The only slight downer is that I got mixed up with Frodo's work experience. I think it's only 9.5 yrs, which means we'll only be able to claim for 8 yrs. This would give us 115 points, putting us in a good position for the next draw, especially if the pass mark drops again!

Fingers crossed

Now........... where's that EOI form.

Hi,
Wow, you have been busy.

Has Frodo got a job offer ? (I'm going to go and see if you've said after posting this !)

My understanding is that you can't claim any bonus points relating to areas etc without one.

Thanks for posting. Will get back to you.

Hi,
You know things would so much easier for this old brain if everyone had their photos, and a brief summary in the signature !
I'm not doing that !!!!
It might scare the cats

Right, Cath (Milliemoo) & Duncan (Frodo):

I would have thought your points were (working down the EOI points table):

Skilled employment: 0
Bonus points for employment or offer of employemeny in: 0
Relevant work experience: 25
Additional bonus points if work experience in NZ: 0
Additional bonus points for work experience in an identified drowth area, cluster or area of absolute skills shortage: 0
Qualifications: 50
Bonus points for: 0
Age: 25

Total = 100

Am I right or wrong ?

Cheers

Steve

Hi Steve,

Gees, I'm getting in a tizz now!

I thought because it said Is your work OR offer blah blah blah it ment your current work. Just checked, and your right in saying that we can't get points for this. BUT..... As far as I can see, you still get the points from the work experience question because it askes for w/e anywhere and whether it's a comparable market.

Am I right ????

I'm sensing the stress levels are beginning to rise

I forgot to say that the bonus points are from the qualification being in a growth area and absolute skills shortage aswell.

Any comments Taffy?

I'm going to find a quiet room to meditate in now

Hi,
Interesting.....
If you look on page 304 of the operations manual:

[quote]Work experience is recognised and qualifies for points if:
a. it is relevant to the principal applicant’s* current skilled employment
in New Zealand or offer of skilled employment in New Zealand; or
b. a visa or immigration officer is satisfied that it is skilled work
experience because it required, or enabled the principal applicant* to
gain, significant specialist, technical or management expertise; or
it is relevant to the principal applicant’s* recognised qualification (see SM14).
v Principal applicants who do not have current skilled employment
or an offer of skilled employment in New Zealand (see SM7) will
only qualify for points for work experience if:
i the work experience meets the requirements for recognition set
out above; and
ii that work experience was gained in a labour market that is
comparable to the New Zealand labour market.[/quote:]

In particular:

v

only qualify for points for work experience if:

Steve (still absorbing this !!!)

OK, look at SM13 on page 309.

SM13.10 says:

Quote:
SM13.10 Work experience in an identified future growth area
Recognised work experience in an identified future growth area qualifies
for points if:
a. the principal applicant* has points for current skilled employment or
an offer of skilled employment in an identified future growth area
(see SM8.10); and
b. the experience is relevant to that employment (see SM7.10.5).
