Default Retirement

Does anyone have any idea what the situation is with retirement to NZ? Its a question that crops up a few times but with no answers! Does anyone know or do I have to go through the lengthy automated telephone answering service at NZIS?!

Thanks

I called NZIS in London, they said the same.. absolutely no way for people to retire to NZ unless its family sponsorship. Even then they're not too keen on it!

I think the only real way is either investing or starting a business on a very small scale.

Default Retirement

I am emigrating to NZ early next year ( see some of my previous messages ) and I intend to retire when I get there. I have been lucky enough to get accepted under the family quota scheme; i.e. my mother who is an NZ resident entered me for the annual draw and I was lucky enough to be picked out. The fact that I do not have a job to go to or that I do not wish to work, did not come up in any of the meetings I have with NZIS. The fact is that by sponsoring me in this scheme my mother undertakes to support me for the first 2 years ( i.e. I cannot claim anything during that period) I told my mother she owns me plenty of pocket money back pay !!

I will be 57 when I arrive in NZ and I will live on my already payable private pensions and my capital, details of which where offered to NZIS, but considered unnecessary.

I read that the family quota scheme did not operate during 2003/04 and I am not sure if it is operating 2004/05. However if you wish to retire to NZ and have an immediate family member resident in NZ for at least 3 years, it is worth a go.

Dave
