Default relocating pets

Hi everyone,

We are intending to bring our 2 dogs to nz so that they can also enjoy outdoor life and escape northern ireland weather. The cost is incredible, more than a return ticket for two humans! Has anyone had any experience of this? I am very worried about the effects of the flight and would love to hear from anyone who has relocated their pets.
Thanks

No experience with it, but I am looking to do the same thing. I was also shocked by the cost.

Just remember to book quarantine well in advance, as they have a limited number of spots. I've been in contact with Canterbury quarantine, as well as a pet relocation company.

Coming from Northern Ireland, being part of the UK, you wont need to have your pets quarantined.

However, you will need to have all the injections and the ID chip for them.

Well color me "corrected".

I wasn't aware that certain countries could get away without having quarantine. Lucky people :)

Just searched out that thread. Didn't know that about UK to NZ pets, bonus. Did you know there is only one mammal native to New Zealand still around on the Islands. (Top Trivia :icon_lol: )

Anyway, we plan to bring over two cats, has anyone else done this? How do I find out about travel costs for cats?

Hi,
Try this:
My NZ LInks Page
Click on 'Pets'

There's various companies and lots of useful websites for info.

Golden Arrow seem to have a very good reputation.
I'm not getting commission - but we'll probably be paying them to ship our dog :icon_cool:

When we decided to move to NZ the hardest decision ever was to leave our beloved pets behind, but the costs were too great and the potential trauma for the animals even worse. We found them good homes but it still breaks my heart.

My guess is a species of bat.

We are leaving ours.
When we toured the South Island, we were surprised to find that an awful lot of walks and trails do not allow dogs, so they may not get to see as much of the countryside as you would like.
tbh we hardly saw any dogs at all there, there is a definitely a different attitude towards dogs

We are taken our dog with us, but she is staying with my mum until we are settled. we are looking at Nelson as a place to live and have been told that the walks are fantastic there for dogs.

I had a word with a friend who is a vet and she assured us that the journey is not half as traumatic as it once was. They won't sedate your pet like they used to either, as they like to monitor them.

All in all, you have to decide whether to take your pet or not. but it is down to personal choice.

The cost is a lot of money I agree, it is just something you have to budget for if you really want them to come with you. I would ring Golden Arrow. I have their book on customer comments, it has very reassurring stories that pets do travel!
