Default Are we all worrying over nothing?

I've just been reading the official statement released by the NZIS about the EOI selection process, and there are some interesting facts on there.

It shows the percentages of applications that meet certain criteria of processing, such as job offers etc, for points selections of 120, 115 and 110.

At 120 points, only 27% of people were claiming jobs in a shortage, cluster or future growth area, for 115 points, for the same subjects were only 19% and for 110 it dropped again to 16%.

At 120 points, 36% had no job or job offer, at 115 points, 49% have no job or job offer and at 110 points, 55% of people have no job offer or job.

So, this makes me think a bit... is all this stress and fuss over finding 'Priority Jobs' and 'Occupational Shortages' etc, when only 8.6% of EOI applications get declined, really worth it? Maybe this process is not as strict as we thought?

Comments?

Taffy,
As you say, the lower it gets the less strict the requirements can be.
If it reaches 100 - they'll even let me in !
I'm wondering what will happen to the numbers at 100.
And how will they pick so many in one go, or will they invent a queing system.
Have you looked at my spreadsheet ?
It shows quite clearly how things are changing.
I'm still rfreshing that home page waiting for the selection results.
I've heard it's at least as low as 110 !

Steve

I think it will be 110, they took a massive dive from 130 to 115, so i expect it will only go 5 points more, and quite possibly hover around there for a few selections.

Yes, I agree.
The problem for them is if large number pile in at 105 & 100.
If they don't pick them pretty soon, they'll have a HUGE number to pick.
The later they pick the worse it will be !!!!!
That's why I wonder whether they are going to drop really quickly, to take the surge, and then hover around 100/105.
Who knows !
Certainly not me.

Its easy to see what will happen there. If they get a sudden surge of applications, they will up the points criteria to let the applications time-out of the pool.

Funny thing I was just reading though... Apparently the majority of NZIS staff are still occupied processing the old General Skills applications! They have something along the lines of a 40,000 backlog of these applications which need to be processed in some form or another. I cant imagine they would have to do any more than say 'Sorry, but we screwed you by changing the system', but thats the way it goes.

What an odd way to do business!

all this talk of the selection point being lowered to 100. Someone want to donate 5 points this way? I'll even buy them off you :)

Hi,
Anyone got a spare wife with a BSc or better ?
No one I've asked so far is interested :icon_lol:

I could do with a few more too.
I'm STILL waiting for them to announce this selection :icon_evil:
