Hi,
I didn't believe this when someone mentioned it.
PC monitors are apparantly setup up for the magnetic field of the destination.
I know it sounds crazy !
Try this:

http://www.webopedia.com/DidYouKnow/...emispheres.asp

Having said that, no one has said they've had a problem.

TVs don't work. No Sound, because it's at a different frequency.
Simple fix. Buy a cheap NZ VCR. Connect TV to SCART or equivavant.
NZ vides don't seem to have SCART.
Use VCR for tuning.

Matthew Waite - List of countries per standard
This says that both the UK & NZ are: 625 lines, 50 fields, 15.625KHz, Sub-carrier 4.434MHz
http://freespace.virgin.net/matt.wai...e/tvstandards/
Telsat - Video Standards (NTSC, PAL, SECAM)
This says:

NZ uses: B/G PAL Nicam Teletext
UK uses: I PAL Nicam Teletext

Where

B = VHF
G = UHF with sound offset = 5.5MHz, vision bandwidth = 5.0MHz
I = UHF with sound offset = 6.0MHz, vision bandwidth = 5.5MHz

So, a UK TV in NZ will have poor vision and no sound.
I would expect a replacement tuner to cure the problem. Or an NZ video connected to your TV
via it's SCART connector.

Cheers

Steve

For your DVD's NZ are on R4 while the UK is on R2 though most UK DVD's work both R2 or R4 for an example all BBC DVD's are this way.

Or you could just buy a DVD player out there and then hack it to play all regions ?

Thanks Coulliette,
If it's not on my website, I probably don't know it !

By the way guys, if you want to know how to region free your computer DVD drive, and record onto VHS tape !
I've just had to do that so our eldest could watch a Bear in the Big Blue House video, without sitting on my computer, hogging one of my monitors !

Look under "Unlocking DVDs" and "Recording DVD's on VHS"

http://www.angelfire.com/hi5/neuraln...ers/links.html

The Slysoft AnyDVD is free for 21 days, and I can tell you it works brilliantly.
It's supposed to get round region problems, encryption and copy protection.
Pity I don't get something for the free advert !

I'm NOT recommending selling copies by the way.
Just for legal personal use.

By the way, on whether to take stuff or not.

I guess it depends on how old you are - and therefore how much rubbish you've collected !

If you've only got enough for a number of small boxes, then one extra box for an old TV that'll need a VCR to use in NZ sounds like a bad deal.

If, however, (like us) you have enough for 2x 20ft containers (or more !!!!!!), then an extra TV isn't costing very much at all, or even nothing. In which case, why not take it.

We're trying to get rid of rubbish - a tough job !

By the way, don't forget to check out my "free software" page, in my computer section.
I'm collecting quite a list of good stuff.

http://www.angelfire.com/hi5/neuraln...esoftware.html

Specifically for those emigrating, how about Sun Clock.
A world wide click, with map showing where the day/night is.
I find it handy for knowing what time it is where the person I'm talking to is.

Sun Clock (suggested by Ram ? thanks)

The others are under "International Time Clocks"

Now, I must get on or my wife will kill me !

Cheers

Steve
