Default Submitted My Application!!

Dropped it off at NZ House yesterday.

Fingers crossed everything is ok. Was told it could take about 3 months to go through, but could be as quick as 1!!

Then get asked to bring my passport in to get stamped, and another ?115 for the migrant levy.

All in all it's cost me nearly ?700!!

(ps: this is for the Family category - partnership)

Yeah, this is what you'll need.

Why does it cost so much? I don't know, but it all adds up:

Medical ?145
Police Check ?10
Application ?460
Solicitor to Certify copies of passport / birth certificates / wedding certificate ?30
Migrant Levy ?115

Not to mention passport photos, obtaining a full birth certificate (?27) and all the other small things you'll need.

It's taken me a month to get all these things sorted, and if I were you, I would'nt hang about - you can't gaurantee how long they'll take to approve everything.

One piece of advice; hold on to any letters, postcards, wedding invites (and envelopes!?!) that are addressed to the both of you - they all help boost your application, anything that proves you've been together for a long time.

Gosh, really quite expensive. Not sure whether to apply here or over in NZ now. Some people say its easier to apply once you are in NZ as I am there, and already married. Whereas if i apply here before the wedding, i am only a girlfriend. We are leaving straight after the wedding you see.

The only reason I'm applying over here is that I will be looking for work as soon as we arrive, so didn't want to be in the situation of 'we'd like to employ you but you're only on a working tourist visa, etc'. Not sure if this would happen or not, but just wanted to try and cover all the bases.

It doesn't matter that you're boyfrind & girlfriend, as long as you've been together for a while it's looked on as good as a married relationship.

I have sponsored my partner just recently. We submitted the application and docs to NZ House on 21 July and have just today received a letter dated 9 August confirming they have "Approved in Principle" - all that they are after now is the Migrant Levy, following that they will return his passport with his Permanent Residence permit.

We're off next Ferbruary.

I think the sooner you send in the application the better, even if it comes back really quickly there's no danger of it expiring before you go out in June.

Good luck with the forms!

I found it helpful to make a copy of them all first before attempting to fill them in - takes the pressure off a little.
