Default IT jobs

My boyfriend and I are planning on moving to New Zealand (from the UK) in a year or so, initially temporarily but then possibly to apply for residency. It should be no problem for me to get a work permit, as I'm a speech and language therapist and lots of jobs are available (they're always being advertised in the UK job paper). My boyfriend is just finishing a degree in Computing, but all the info I've read on the government website says that he'd need 3 years work experience to get a job under the Occupational Shortages List. The other way is for him to get a job from a company with "approval in principle" - any ideas how we find these jobs? Is there a list of these companies anywhere? I've spent hours looking on the net, but found it very confusing!
Thanks
Kat

Hi,
The problem is the immigration system could be completely different in a year of so !
It changed only at the end of last year.
So whatever we say now could be completely wrong then.

Don't confuse companies with accreditation, with approval in principle.
For a 'useful' list of companies with accreditation see this (the NZIS version is 'not very useful !!!!!!):

http://www.angelfire.com/hi5/neuraln...companies.html

They aren't very useful for IT.
I've tried to say what each company does to save a lot of surfing !

Approval in principle is only for a particluar person with a job offer.
It is one of the routes to getting a work permit when you get a job offer.

You are right it's a long process to understand all this stuff.

If you have 'work experience', and therefore more points etc, and you have a long term relationship (or will have), you could be the main applicant, and your boyfriend get in with you.

I hope that helps a bit.
All the best

Steve

Steve
Thanks for the help! Didn't realise there was a difference between approval in principle and accredited employers. I was trying to get my head round it now, so it'd be easier when the time comes to move, but maybe there's no point if it might all change anyway!

Hi Kat,
No worries !
It's a good idea to learn about it now. It may still be the same, or similar, when you want to go for it.
The thing is, if you learn now you will pick it up much more quickly next time. Also, you may adjust your plans to maximise your chances.
For example, take your relationship. If one of you wanted to be the main applicant and the other get in as a partner, then you will need to prove a long term ralationship.
There is certain evidence etc that they will ask for.
You may decide simple things, like whose name is on a bill, that would make that easier later.
I'm NOT suggesting you get married just to satisfy NZIS !
Keep documents that you will need.

Good luck with your future

Steve
