Default Best immigration option

Hi

Can anyone one help? My partner and I are keen to emmigrate from the UK to NZ next March/April time. I have been offered a job outside of Auckland, should the organisation be offering assistance with my immigration?

Also, what would be the best option for immigration for the two of us? I have approx. 200 points and my husband to be has approx. 140 points. We both would like to work when over there - should we both apply under the skilled migrant category? Will our applications be linked? We would both need to be assured entry together.

Any advice would be very grateful!
Thanks.

Hi casper,
Whoever has the most points should go as principle applicant, and the partner will be included in the application. You dont need to apply twice as the SMC takes the form of Principle applicant with partner and, if applicable, children included.

Hi Taffy

Many thanks for the very rapid reply!

It might seem a stupid question (and I am still awaiting advice from my prospective employers) but should the organisation (government affliated) be helping me in the immigration process?

Thanks
Casper

It all depends what you mean by helping? They will have to provide some information to immigration stating why they chose to employ you over a kiwi, but apart from that I doubt you will get much assistance in any other respect.

Some companies are more helpful than others, but when it comes to government, well... thats a different story!

Would love to hear how you got a job with a government department. It may be the area I will need to look at

Default Government job

To The Andersons

Sorry not to have replied sooner - not been online for a while. I work in research and subscribe to several related mailing lists. The job was advertised on the list so I applied, I should point out that I have since found out that though the organisation is government funded they operate as a company. I was selected for interview by videoconferencing - and one of the directors flew out to the UK to follow up discussions last week. My partner and I are travelling over to NZ on the 18th of this month to visit some of the offices (on both islands) before we make a final decision.

I cannot give much advice, accept to say that if you are in research it is worth joining any international disussion lists/mailing lists as they are an effective media for employment listings.

Good luck
Casper

Hi,
Use NZ specific search engines (check out my NZ links page)
I have a few universities and government sites listed, but I doubt there's much for you.

What field are you in ? (Edited: Ok, Economic development - what the hell's that !!!)

Try the 'Government' section.
Try 'Directories' - search for companies in your field (some are better than others for each field)
Maybe 'Societies and Groups"

I hope that helps a bit.

Steve
