Default Carpentry in Whangerei

Hi all :D

My partner is a Chippie by trade and whilst we know that Carpenters are in demand in NZ as it's on the OSL, we are not aware as to whether we would be ok finding work in Whangerei, if anyone has any info on this it would be greatly received

Cheers

Lisa :D

Hi Lisa,
I would imagine that chippies will be in demand pretty much anywhere that there is a populated area. Perhaps if you looked at some statistics, you could see if there was a growing population in that area, which would suggest plenty of construction opportunities.

Maybe some other kind soul will answer you shortly as the kiwis will be on soon!

Lisa,
We are from the US and are also looking at Whangarei. My husband is a painter. I have not been there personally, but here is a direct quote from an agency that is helping us find a job:

"I am based in Whangarei. which if you have a map is about the middle of northland.I have been operating for about 6 months and have just begun recruiting in Whangarei where there is a shortage of good tradesmen."

He says there is plenty of work in the area.

Hope that helps!
Karen

Thankyou, Whangarei, looks great eh? Good luck to your hubby finding a painting job, are you having much luck?, are you having to pay the agency to help you find work?

Hi Lisa,

No we don't have to pay the agency. Apparently they get their money from the employer for the first 13 weeks of employment. It is a franchise called "Gray Skills" and they find employment for the over-40 crowd (which we are well qualified for!). He has written me several times and seems to believe there is plenty of work in the area for tradesmen.

Whangerai looks great to me, but never being there I will have to wait and see. We're making a trip in the next couple months to check it out. :D

Hi Helen,

Good luck with your trip to Whangarei :D

We are just going to sell up here and move out, hope to be there Dec, fingerscrossed.

We have friends in Auckland who have offered us accomodation till we sort visa's, work, accomodation, etc, but we don't want to stay in Auckland, we have our hearts set on Whangarei, only time will tell, i guess :)

I have found some links for you, apologies if you have already seen them :D
