citizenship?

Hi i am trying to claim NZ citizenship through descent. My father was a NZ born and bred who married an English woman (my mother). I have looked into this on the Govt site and it seems that i can so long as i have all the documents. All i want to know is if i do get my citizenship how long will i have to wait?

I have just got citizenship by decent. :) I just sent off my documents, didnt know how to register my citizenship and found it impossible to find out.!!!Passport people sent me a form ,filled it in and that was it.

Well i sent them of 2 weeks ago and i have been told that it can take up to 6 weeks. I have lots of time so its not so bad. :D

It was about 6 weeks I think, no more than that .Like I said finding out about if I actualy had to register was the difficult bit ,I read that"Citizens by decent born before !978 do not need to register there citizenship" but it seems you do.Although you are probably younger than me.It said that on www.dia.govt.nz under SERVICES then under CITIZENSHIP BY DESCENT .But I find the N.Z.folk to be so much more efficiant and they ring you if youve missed something at work or home or leave messages for you to get back to them.Get your forms away theyll let you know if youve missed anything :) Good Luck

Thanks for the advice. I just got it through this morning lol and it only took 2 and a half weeks. Very fast i thought. All i have to do now is get my passport and i am all sorted. :D
