School term

Does anybody know how the school terms compare to US schools?
My Granddaughter is in 8th grade now in Tacoma, WA, USA, and we
would like for her to spend a 1/2 year or a year as a student in NZ,
either staying with friends in Prebbleton/Christchurch or as a "foreign
exchange" student.
She and I were in NZ in March/April last. I have been to NZ several times,
but this was her first trip outside the US. She LOVED it, every minute, and
she made a BIG hit with my friends and other Kiwis she met.

NZ school terms run from January to December. I expect she would be able to go on a student visa, but how this would fair I dont really know. I'm not sure whether children of her age can go on exchange terms or not. Probably your best bet would be to contact a school close to your friends in Christchurch to see if they would accept her, and then speak directly with immigration to see if a student visa is the way to go.

I'm sure if it is acceptable it would be an excellent opportunity for her, so we wish you luck!
