schools

Does anyone know what month the school year starts in NZ.
When we go our son will be 4 and a half and would be starting school here our daughter will be 8 and will have just completed her 3 year of primary school..
I am guessing that schooling is a similar arrangement to here in the UK. ie Primary schools then Secondary????

The school year runs with a rather more sensible January to December arrangement! Children are able start school on their 5th birthday (not before), but must attend by the age of 6.

Also, there are normally middle schools instead of the primary to secondary leap that the UK have. I cant recall the specific age range that attend middle school, but I believe it is for 2 years at roughly age 11 until they are 13 (someone correct me if i'm wrong!)

Hope that gives you a bit of an insight, just dont quote me on accuracy!

My son's birthday is 24th Jan..

We intend to arrive in NZ when he is 4 so he will turn 5 that January..
He won't have to wait till the following January to start school will he??

The schools are probably on holiday till sometime in February aren't they??
