Default Taking dogs from uk to nz

Anyone please help!
I am hoping to go to NZ for a year (if i can get a job/relevant visa's etc)
There is myself, wife, 2 small kids and 2 dogs.
First question. I am a telecoms engineer, what are the job prospects on the North Island??
Second question. How much hassle is it to bring the 2 dogs with us and how expensive is it??

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Dave

Hi Dave,
I think there are a good number of telecoms jobs available in New Zealand, but I would expect that browsing agency websites would give you a better idea!

For your dogs, yes, it is a lot of hastle to take them! Coming from the UK they will need a set of injections and an identity chip before departure. Then you need to find a company that will handle pets as cargo. Once all that is sorted, pets must be transported to Auckland airport so that they can be checked out by the MAF (www.maf.govt.nz) for all their correct injections and the chip. If it all checks out, you can usually take them without any quarantine period as there is no rabies etc in the UK any more.

I suppose its more of a lengthy and expensive process, as compared to being a complicated one. And all that on top of only taking them out there for a year, I would think would also make it a very stressful time for the dogs.

Hope this helps

Default re:- Dogs to new zealand

Hi there saw your plea for help it is quite straight forward to take dogs to New Zealand as ive looked into it for my own dog. As Taffy said you need pets to be identichipped and vaccinated but be careful as i took my own dog for her booster jabs yesterday and they couldnt do them as one of the viruses we protect dogs against is not a problem in NZ and therefore the blood test before taking dog may show up the disease whereas it is only really the vaccination that they have had (Does that make sense). The other good thing about taking your dog is there is no quarentine law from UK to NZ so dog gets off plane and goes home with you. How much of a relief is that! Another thing i have found useful is this website should tell you all you need to know. Good luck

Default Dogs from USA

It doesn't seem so bad taking dogs from UK to NZ, does anyone know what the regulations are for taking a dog (and cats) from the US to NZ?

Thanks for all your help!

Hi Coulliette,
It's pretty much the same, only I believe animals from the USA must also have a rabies injection, and will most certainly be subject to quarantine. I'm not sure the exact length of quarantine, but I can tell you it is pretty expensive! I've seen people talking about figures of 2 or 3000 dollars for this.
