Default Basic Query

Hi, I am yet to start the NZ immigration process under the Skilled Migrant category and have joined this grop to seek some help:

I would like to know which process to start first:The Immigration process or the Job search process. For applying and being successful in Skill Migrant category it seems that having a Job or a Job offer is a necesscity. Else it is very difficult to get enough points. Is it possible that a Job offer can be arranged for a person who is based in offshore and who has NOT started his immigration process yet. How and where can we arrange for such jobs. Any of your experiences would help.

The other issue is, Do NZ companies really entertain such a person who does not possess the necessary work visa. Going by your experience, how are the timings of the two processes(immigration-skilled migrant to Job search) reccomended i.e. arrange the Job first and then file an EOI or start the EOI process first.

Request if someone could advise or share their experiences on this.

Cheers
SS

Hi SS

For an interview yes, but you may be offered the job conditionally (ie subject to visa application etc etc)

Most NZ companies stick to the law and will not employ you if you do not posess the correct documents.

I am not an immigration expert but would suggest doing both at the same time.
Apply for a few jobs and send off the application stating that you are in the process of applying, by the time NZIS enquire as to the status you may have some offers on the table.

We have some great immigration consultant contacts that I am happy to pass your way if you require.

All the best

Regards

Glenn

I seem to be getting confused (not difficult) about what visa I need ..

Our plan is to go to NZ on a 30 month (i read about that on nzis site i think) work visa.. during that 30 months we'll decide whether it's for us and then apply for residency...

What visa do we need...?
Do we need to do the EOI thing?
Do we still need points?

I thought I had it sussed but now i'm not sure... :?

Hi,
I assume you are talking about the work permit? This lasts for up to 3 years and entitles you to work in NZ.

There are some conditions in place for gaining one of these permits which, after much searching of the NZIS website, can be found here:

http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra...ngCanIStay.htm

You dont need to submit an EOI for this and you dont need points. However, i believe the general rule is you must have an offer of employment on the occupational shortages list, or must be employed on the basis that your employer can prove that no suitable New Zealander is available for that position.

Its a fairly tricky visa to gain as you need to have an offer of employment already in place before it will be granted. If you are between 18 and 30 years old, you could start off with the working holiday visa to enable you to work temporarily whilst looking for a job that meets the NZIS criteria for a proper work permit. If not, you'll either have to be very lucky and get a job offer before you go, or go on a holiday, find work, then apply when in NZ.

I hope you can find some useful info in amongst all that!
