Default Forms, Forms and MORE Forms!

Hi everyone,
This is for everyone who has looked at, attempted or completed any of the application forms. Was there anything you found difficult? Any particular questions you were caught out on? Was anything else, such as requested documents like police certificates etc, easy to obtain? Anything related to the applications, post it here! Hopefully we can make things easier for all of us!!

Hey Taffy

Cool website, great article in the Herald - you should get in on the back of that alone...

I married my kiwi wife nearly 3 years ago and plan to move to Wellington early next year. I downloaded all (I think) the forms and have had a good look through them, and it looks like I have to leave it until less than 3 months before we intend to go (because of the medical certificate requirements) before I can post my application. Is this right? Does anyone know how long it takes on average to get the medical and police forms completed (these seem like the only forms out of my control)?

Also, it looks like my wife will have to proove her eligibility to sponsor me by ... filling out another form.

Hi Stu,
Thanks for the compliments :) if only it was as easy as getting in on the article!

As for your question, yes, medical and police forms do only last 3 months, which in my guessing is why applications only stay in the pool for that length of time (although I could well be wrong on that!)

I believe the medical stuff can be done pretty much as and when you can get an appointment, and the police forms can take however long, depending on the force you apply to! So, sorry thats not much help to you. Could someone who has already applied for their police certificate help? We know you're out there....

Police certificates are valid for six months, not three (at least according to NZIS1011 from August 2003). As for how long they take to arrive, in the UK I think it depends on your local force. Mine took about six weeks. The Germans win again though - my certificate from there took less than a week to arrive. Was also free in Germany - ten quid in the UK.

Medicals should be faster - but make sure your X-rays are sent with the certificate. I have no idea whether embassy staff are qualified to assess them (if so, why does the doctor also have to see them?) - but they do ask for them. The doctor who did my medical didn't include the X-ray plates with the certificate, and I had to get them sent on afterwards.
