HI GUYS


MY WIFE AND I HAVE STARTED TO LOOK INTO RELOCATING TO N.Z. I HAVE BEEN TOLD (BY A AGENCY) THAT I HAVE ENOUGH POINT TO GET A WORKING VISA AS I'M AN ELECTRICIAN :? ....WE HAVE HAD A LOOK ON THE WEB PAGES FOR HOUSES IN AND AROUND THE HAWKS BAY AREA AND WERE WONDERING IF ANY BODY COULD ADVICE US IN HOW TO GO ABOUT HOUSE HUNTING AND ALL THE OTHER GENERAL STUFF AND IF THERE IS ANOTHER WAY OTHER THAN THRU AN AGENCY.

Hi Jumanji,
You dont need to go through an agent, you can do the application on your own if you wish. Did the agency tell you that as an Electrician you would have to re-register in New Zealand due to the differences in saftey laws etc?

You are right though, being an electrician would look good to get a work permit, even residency if you have the right qualifications and possibly a job offer!

hi taffy

yes i do know that i have to site the safety course and new zealand wiring regulations. shouldn't be to difficult from the standards in the uk.......you said that i do not need to go thru an agency what other way can i do it and can you give me any direction to go down. i have looked into the shipping of my goods from the uk as i've been in touch with another electrician who moved out to n.z. in febuary an has been keeping up to date with his situation.

You can get all the forms and guides from this website (click on the information link at the top of the forum) and download the files. They are in PDF format so you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader (www.adobe.com). You can just fill in the forms yourself and send it direct to NZIS.

Read the guide and decide if you want to attempt the form yourself. If you have any questions or need help, then feel free to post a question and we'll see if we can help you through!

I'd be interested to hear how things go and how things are with your mate. We also live in Scotland and my husband is an electrician and are looking in to moving to New Zealand
