    Default permanent residency expiry date??!

    Hi

We've got our PR finally. But in immigration online account it is mentioned like this:

"The holder of this permit may remain in NZ indefinitely. This permit expires when the holder leaves NZ. "

What does it mean? Does it mean that we will loose our PR if we leave NZ and want to come back???

    Thanks

When you leave NZ for a holiday etc., your PR will be cancelled, BUT because you also should have a Returning Resident's Visa in your passport, this means that you will get a new PR automatically when you come back into NZ (unless you have been away for a very long time and your RRV has expired ).

Default just a little more clarification plz

    Thank you for your reply.
When you say I should have RRV, do you mean they issue this for all PRs?
and do I need to ask for anything when I come back?

    Cheers

I don't know if this will explain things more clearly. It is a bit confusing where it says you will need to apply for an RRV but, as I understand it, you will have one put in your passport at the same time your PR sticker goes in there. You should have 2 blue stickers, 1 for PR and 1 for your RRV. Under normal circumstances, you will get your PR renewed automatically as you re-enter NZ. If your RRV is about to expire (after 2 years if you haven't complied with the requirements for an IRRV) you would then have to apply for a new one.
