Default Dependant Visa for partner and children

    Hi,

If I get accepted on a Student's visa for a course on Early Childhood Education which is on the Long Term Skill Shortage List, can I take my kids and partner along with me on a dependant visa. Have checked with a few people who have told me that my partner can work full time and my kids can study there. Will we have to pay international fees for the kids though.

Any advice on this matter is welcome.

    Thanks,
    Charming

Hi Charming, glad to see you are back with us again.

I'm studying in NZ, and want to have my partner and children with me.

Your family will need to apply for permits of their own in order to remain in NZ with you. If you want your partner (spouse or de facto) to join you in NZ, they may apply for a Family Work permit/visa, provided that they meet certain policy requirements (listed under Step 2 of the work permit/visa link). If the listed requirements are not met, your partner will not be eligible for the Family Work permit/visa, but they may apply for any other type of temporary permit, as long as they meet the requirements of that particular application on their own.

Your child/ren may apply for a visitor permit/visa or (if they are attending school) a student permit/visa. Please note that they will be considered as international students, so international school fees may apply.

    From here.

    Hi Mother Bear,

Thanks for your response. Do you have any idea as to the rate for the international student fees for Primary education.

    Thanks,
    Charmaine

I have no idea, sorry, but the fees will probably be different depending on what level each child is at and which institutions you choose. It might be better contacting schools you are interested in to ask them directly.

Meanwhile you could look at this to see if there is anything of interest. There is an email link near the top right hand side that could possibly provide some answers for you.
