Smile How to claim points for Certifications?

Hi,

I have several ICT related certifications including the following:

-ITIL Foundation certification (EXIN International) - 16 hours training
- CCNA (a private company certification and not CISCO international certification)
- Linux Fundamentals (a private company certification and not international certification) - 40 hours training
- Linux Administration (a private company certification and not international certification) - 40 hours training

can I claim for points for these certifications? As I studied in Levels [ KiwiQuals ] (New Zealand Register of Quality Assured Qualifications) website, certifications are placed in levels 1 to 4.

Kind regards,
Farzad

Hi, I work as well in the IT. I think it is more important how many years experience do you have then claiming points for this certifications.
I work now more than 10 years in the IT. I have enough certificates to decorate my house. In Europe they are welcome but not in NZ unless you have a recognised certificate like MCSA, SCSA, Linux, Cisco, etc. More important is the time you have been working in IT.

Default certificates again

Hi Gnome,

It's now 3 years that I am working on ITIL field (I think it maps to "Systems Analyst" in Absolute Skill Shortage List), so could I claim for points for my ITIL foundation certificate?

Hi

You would have to get the qualification assessed by the NZQA and for them to give it a level 5 (i think) or above for it to qualify for extra points.

My husband has ITIL Foundation and we didn't bother to get it assessesd as didn't think it would give the level needed. He has Prince 2 Practitioner too and we applied to assess that to which they said they couldn't give it a level.

ITIL is recognised by the employers over here though and we have seen plenty of jobs asking for them.

Hi ebianca,

does ITIL related work experience maps to "Systems Analyst" job on ISSL and LTSSL? (ANZSCO 261112)
Can you give me any idea about monthly income for this profession?

Thanks
Farzad

Hi,

Correct me if i am wrong, but cant you only get points for a "recongnised qualification"??? My OH has some microsoft quals and so far they have counted for nothing in the EOI.

This link will give you an idea of what your potential annual salary could be in an IT post, and there are a few salary calculators which break down your annual salary into monthly payments minus tax.

Anyway, Good luck

Caz xx

Just for info, there's a salary tax calculator here too New Zealand Immigration - Free Advice on NZ Immigration which works out how much you will bring home on any given salary

Farzad:

ITIL Certification Management Board (ICMB) would not count towards points, neither would your CCNA nor Linux certifications.

NZQA would look at 'scholastic' degrees as opposed to certifications.

Your certifications however, will ring pluses with the employers and an employer's offer will count serious points to your EOI.
