Hi,
Am just about to submit our EOI, can anyone give me an idea of when you take the medical tests. Do they tell you where and when they have to be taken and how long are they valid for? Are they very expensive?

Hi Paul
You need to find your local panel doctor which can be found on this website www.immigration.govt.nz would then suggest contacting your nearest panel doctors and ask for the availabilty dates and prices
We had to wait three weeks for available date and we live in the same town as the doctor(the panel doctor may have to cover a large radius of surrounding towns), apparently they are now having up to fourty a week for Australia, Canada and New Zealand.Ask if they can post you a price list.We also had to pay for chest X-Rays which we thought was in with the price of the medicals.
The results where available one week later.I believe they are valid for three months.
I guess it depends on when you plan to move to New Zealand

So far as I know, the medicals are good for three months - to get them submitted to NZIS with your application. After that, no need to worry. We had ours done in July 2006, submitted all in time, then didn't get PR until October 2007.

The medical reports should be submitted with your ITA, along with your police certificates so you don't need to worry about them until you find that your EOI has been selected. They do cost a fair bit so you need to time them so that they are still valid when your ITA package is submitted. Once you have chosen your panel doctor and you think it might be getting near the time your EOI will be selected, perhaps a quick call to them to find out how long you're likely to wait for an appointment might be in order.

As Sparrows says, you can find a panel doctor in your area here . Perhaps someone will come along with an idea of how much these medicals cost.

Hi Paul,
Our medicals were as follows.

?100 each per adult
?60 each per child (under 15 years)
(Plus VAT)
as well as
?82 each per adult for routine blood tests
?72 each for chest x-rays ( over 11 years old)

There could be further costs involved if you need more tests dependent on initial test results.

We are having ours done at the end of March and have been quoted ?260 each. There will be an additional cost of ?40 if extra tests are needed. Shop around the panel doctors - it may be worth travelling a bit to get a cheaper price. My local ones (20 miles radius) were well over ?300 so I am travelling to London (about 40 miles away) to save some money and have a day out . They should be ready about a week later. They last for 3 months so you need to time them for when you are ready to submit your ITA.
