One thing I did glean was that they'd had very few applicants. Apparently software engineers are few and far between, and those of us that do embedded software are an even rarer breed.

Good news for me, even if I don't get this job, hopefully should be able to find something else later!!

Glad your interveiw went OK just the waiting again to do now.

Your situation sounds promising anyway with your skills etc (My OH is in IT but hoping to go into Project Managment and move away from the technical stuff).

Lucy had an e-mail from the company saying they were not able to offer her the position as they required someone that already had the visa sorted for New Zealand and was able to start work soon.

Still, at least it was a good experience.

As you say all good experience.

My only official interview was based more around what I had done as an individual rather than what the team I worked for achieved. None of the usual technical questions I was expecting and felt it was more of a case of they believed in my abilities and experience but wanted to know about me as a person and how I would fit in an interact with my future peers.

With C++ being a de-facto language and any company that develops its own Application or ASIC software will need programmers so is sure to be in demand.

If you don't get an offer before you arrive then you'll be spoiled for choice if you need to go through a face to face interview when you arrive.

My skills were specialised and I had to bite the bullet and get here first.

I had two interviews and both jobs were offered.

That's a shame. Still i'm sure there will be plenty of other jobs for when you are ready to go.

You got the house on market yet?That's the hard bit- we still had no luck- had a veiwing monday morning and they never turned up. It is going to press this week though in the local property paper so hopefully something will come of that.

Anyway, good luckwith the house and job hunting.

Pity they couldn't have told her that in the beginning instead of putting her through the interview, but, as you say, all good experience. There'll be plenty more where that came from. NZ needs her.
