Beth

for your information.

I have just spoken to the Emigration Group and they are still saying that there is no point in me going into the EOI pool. They are certain that I can't claim the bonus points for my job if I don't have a degree.

So it looks like my only choice is to go to NZ and try and get myself a job offer.

Hope this helps.

Gary

Think I may have to look into that.

OH is claiming bulk of points on experience although his plan is to go out to NZ for work anyway as only have 70 ponts witout one. Will have to make sure he will still get experience points with job offer.(wonder if difference between Immediate skill shortage experience and Long term skill shortage experience)

I think they are both the same. The other thing I was told this morning was that the rules are changing this weekend, so if I hear anything I will let you know.

Did you ever decide on a removals company ? I saw an older thread you started on this subject.

Sounds like we are on a simialr path.

We have sold our house, move out 27/7. We plan to travel to NZ Sept/Oct, have a bit of a holiday and then look for work. It looks like most of the IT work is in Auckland and Wellington so I suspect we will have to settle close to one of those two.

Thanks Gary.

We are in the process of selling our house now- just had surveyor round this morning.Hopefully all will be OK and sale estimated to go through in 4weeks.

OH will then quit his job once money is in the bank but he has 6weeks notice to work.

We (myself and two kids) will be moving in with my father in law whilst OH travels to NZ to find a job- we are aiming for Wellington and then either we will join him and apply for visas in NZ of he will come home and apply form UK (that depends on how soon they will want him to start work).

Haven't really done much about shipping yet but will probably start looking again soon. We had spoke to Pickfords which is a big company which has been going for years and they have a offices in NZ too which to me seems like a good thing as same company dealing whith everything at both ends- they had said about ?2500 for a half/shared container load so I imaine would be 4-5K for a full one.

Do you have any children?

Beth

we have 3 children(21,20 and 8) but only the 8 year old (Michael) is coming with us.

We are taking the plunge and all travelling together. Our EOI is all prepared one of us just needs a job offer and we can begin.

If you have not started your application yet it may be wise to find out if it is easier to apply from NZ. A recruitment consultant told me that getting a visa from NZ is much easier, he said that applications for the rest of the world are processed in the UK but in NZ they process their own. Not sure how true this.

I think we will be using PSS for our removals, their quote is in the middle of the price range and a friend has just used them to move to OZ which no hassles this end.

Please let us know when OH will be travelling, maybe we can help each other if our paths cross.

Anyway good luck.

Gary

Hi Gary

Our girls are 3 and 1 so don't fancy travellng around too much with them hence me staying here while OH goes on his own until we know which area we are settling in.

He will probably be going over around the beginning of Sept if everything goes to plan with the house sale.

He will only be going to Wellington as we have decided that is where we would like to go. He's after job in IT Project Management ideally but has spent 8 years as an ICT manager so we are pretty sure he shouldn't have too much trouble finding a job.

I filled in the EOI online and same as you just waiting for a job offer to go on it. I believe that applying from UK can be quicker because there are less applications going through than in mainland NZ however medicals and fees are more in the UK than in NZ .

Feel free to PM me if you fancy a chat and good luck to you too.

Beth

I have copied this straight from the immigration website:

Work experience
You may be able to claim points for your previous work experience. However, your experience should be relevant. This means your experience is in the same field as:

your recognised qualification, or
your current or offered skilled employment.

Alternatively, you can get points if your prior experience required, or helped you gain, considerable specialist, technical, or management expertise.

Points
Condition Points
2 years 10
4 years 15
6 years 20
8 years 25
10 years 30

Bonus points
Aside from the points for work experience, you may be able to get bonus points. For example, you get a bonus if your work experience is in New Zealand, or in an area of absolute skill shortage.

Bonus conditions Points
Work experience in New Zealand
2 years 5
4 years 10
6 or more years 15
Work experience in a future growth area or cluster
2 to 5 years 5
6 or more years 10
Work experience in an area of absolute skills shortage
2 to 5 years 10
6 or more years 15

If you do not have a skilled job or job offer, any work experience you claim points for must have been in a comparable labour market.

For your work experience to be recognised, it must be relevant to your recognised qualification or relevant to your current or offered skilled employment in New Zealand. Or, you can show us that you work experience is skilled because it provided you with considerable specialist, technical or management expertise.

You can gain bonus points if you have work experience lawfully gained in New Zealand or that was in an identified future growth area, cluster or area of absolute skills shortage (see links below for definitions of these terms).

If you do not have current skilled employment or an offer of skilled employment in New Zealand, your work experience must have been in a comparable labour market in order for you to claim points*.

* From 24 July 2006, the definition of recognised work experience is changing. The new definition allows points to be awarded for work experience in an area of absolute skills shortage, gained in any labour market. Applicants who do not have skilled employment or an offer of skilled employment in New Zealand, but who do have work experience in an area of absolute skills shortage gained in a non-comparable labour market, can claim points for work experience on their Expression of Interest from 24 July

See SM13.20 Effective 17/12/2003

Recognised work experience is assessed as being in an area of absolute skills shortage if:
it was undertaken in an occupation included on the Long Term Skill Shortage List (refer Appendix 6); and
it meets the specifications for that occupation; and
the principal applicant* is suitably qualified by training and/or experience to undertake that work (including any specific requirements set out on the Long Term Skill Shortage List).
Where the Long Term Skill Shortage List specifies that occupational registration is required for a listed occupation, principal applicants must demonstrate that they held occupational registration while undertaking the work experience, if occupational registration is required in the country in which the work occurred.

Good Morning Beth

I am already claiming 30 points for my work experience, what I want to claim is the extra 15 for 'Work Experience in an area of absolute skills shortage', then I will have enough points to get out of the pool.

I can't believe the Emigration group are wrong on this, I have spoken to 3 different people there and they all say the same thing, they do not stand to get any extra money from me by making me wait, unless they want me to use the job services they provide.

It would be nice to be able to speak to someone from the NZ authorities, maybe I will investigate.

This seems such a minefiled and so frustrating, but at least it stops time wasters from starting this process.

If you want a chat you can ring me after 9.30 on 07740634855, it's a work mobile and usually only on Thu and Fri.

Gary

Morning Gary.

They may well be right after all they should be experts in this- it is all so confusing and probably lots of small print which is hard to find.

May be worth a chat with immigration if you can get hold of them or maybe drop them an email- if they can't give you an answer then no-one can.

It won't really matter either way for us as we would still need a job offer to get the points to submit EOI so we will be taking the gamble really but we so no reason why we wouldn't get residence once we have job offer.

Anyway, bye for now.
Beth

I wouldn't take anything for granted. True, the Emigration Group is supposed to be one of the better outfits, but I've heard stories about agents (not these, particularly) telling clients one thing and it's turned out to be something else. It's always best to check things out if they don't seem to add up. Even NZIS get it wrong and you can have several different answers from several different people there. Makes you wonder what hope there is for the rest of us when you can't even get the correct info from the horses mouth.
