Default Qual assessments.

Hi all.

Just a quick query I think.

My husband is in IT management and has over 12years experience however he is completely self taught and has no quals.

he is looking at two courses: Prince 2 project management and ITIL

Does anyone know if these quals will give points on the EOI or if you can get them assessed before you have them?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don?t know if this will be of any help at all, but I?ll post it up anyway.

If you scroll down here and click on Skilled Migrant Category Points Indicator under Hot Links on the left hand side, this brings up the Points Indicator box. You can then click on a couple of the blue links under Qualifications. I doubt it will completely answer your question, but there might be some indication on there about how the points are awarded.

Some qualifications may require assessment by the NZQA before you can discover how many points they carry. It might be a good idea to drop them an email to ask your question as they may well be able to help you with it.

Thanks MB  :)

I know the quals don't come under any of the ones listed. They won't be on a level with a degree I don't think as they are like 3/5 day crash courses.

They are professional quals and are a certification. I briefly looked into the NZQA to get them assessed but I don't think you can do that unless you have the qual.

Wanted to know if it was worth forking out the cash for the courses as they are over £1,000 each .

Maybe I will email and ask if they can give me an idea of level without getting them officially assessed.

If anyone has had them assessed themselves and knows what level they are at please let me know.  :icon_wink: (Think it has to be level 3 and above to qualify for EOI points).

You can have your qualification assessed by NZQA .

You will need to choose an Occupation Code that comes closest to the skills of your qualification. ?Not easy if you've been working at something else.

If you are only going to apply for a WP to being with, you probably just need a job offer to get this.

Hello,

I'm sure ITIL does gain you points. NZ is very much into the ITIL practice here, probably a wee bitty too much but hey.

I didnt pass my exams but I do put down on my CV ITIL trained and they just love it. So your hubby will be sorted when he comes across for a job. They also like PRINCE here too. Always one they ask when you go for PM jobs.

Hey.

Well hubby now has his ITIL Foundation certificate and is doing his Prince2 foundation and practitioner in about 3weeks- hopefully he will pass those too.

I'm sure they will help with getting a job which we need to get out points- we only have 70 without a job.

I might get the ITIL assessed and see if it will give us any points think it only costs about ?25 to do it.
and if it gives us level 3 and our 50 points it will be worth it.

hi,
please help me. my situation is like the below..
I have only 105 points without job offer to lodge EOI. i am worried abt this . is it enough for me to get selected for ITA? can anyone give suggestion for claiming bonus points ? i am Bachelor of Engineer in Electronics & communication , having 5 yrs work exp in IT field in .Net (Vb.net,C#,Asp.net). but when i saw immediate skill shortage list , it was mentioned that for for Programmer , i should have Degree level qual majors in Computer or info science. with 3 yrs exp. i am so much confused. but i have studied C,Fortran and C++ as sub-discipline or allied when i was studying B.E (ECE). does this can be consider in Long term skill shortage list ?

Does my qualificaion is relevant to my work exp or does my work exp is relevant to my qual ?
for claiming bonus points ,what can i do .?
please give suggestions . then i am from India
for english lang assement, i have 4 yrs university degree. is it necessary to get letter from my college that this course has been taught entirely in English or simply can i show my Degree certificate?
thanks in advance

Hi All.

A quick update on the qualifications.

We have had the ITIL Foundation Certificate assessed by NZQA and unfortunately only gains a level 2 so no points for us.

Neil is doing the Prince 2 Foundation and Prcatitioner course next week- we will get that assesed one the results come through but we think it should pass as a level 3 and give us the much needed 50 points so we can put in our EOI- otherwise back to square one and try to find a job before we can submit it.

Fingers Crossed and all that.

Beth
