Default work experience

Hi. I would like to know if the work experience in an area of absolute skills shortage has to have been gained in NZ to qualify for points? :-/

Hi and welcome to the forum. ?

I don't know if this clarifies things for you, but the following links seem to indicate that you can claim points for work experience from your home country.

This is a table to show how points are allocated. ?It doesn?t mention about the work experience points having to be gained through being in NZ.

Here?s a link from the NZIS site again showing that you could get 15 points for 6 years or more of work experience but still not mentioning it has to be carried out in NZ. And another NZIS link about claiming for work experience .

It would be a bit unreasonable for NZIS to expect NZ work experience when they're looking for several years' worth. ?You would probably have already gone through the immigration process if you'd been there that long. ?

I think it does matter which country you have worked in, as not all countries are recognised.

So far as I know, the experience does not need to be in NZ. However, if you come from a country where standards aren't equatable, NZIS may require some sort of additional information. I suspect you're okay if the experience is from the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Germany, France or similarly developed nation.

Yet another link from NZIS site I stumbled over, which states clearly what is required regarding work experience in the Absolute Skills Shortages category. ?Scroll down to page 15, item SM 13.20. ?Nowhere does it mention the experience has to be from NZ. ?It states more or less the same as is given in the above link I posted a little while ago. Scrolling down to page 30, SM 14.20 (lower bit) and SM 11.10 also discusses criteria for work experience and mentions about that experience being in a comparable labour market.

The link itself is very useful as it runs through the EOI process in comprehensible steps rather than having to scrabble through different areas and pages, trying to find bit of information to piece together. ?I'll put it up the top as a sticky as it's very handy to refer to.
