Default Advice on Occupations list and employers business

Hi all - just wanted to ask about as I'm not 100% sure on what I should do. My wife holds a job title that doesn't fit with the job description on the EOI guide. Another job title exists, but has no description. The simple question is does the job title make a great deal of difference?
Secondly, my company is an IT services provider, but I can't seem to find IT anywhere? Any ideas?
Your help is appreciated...

Hi Tonyb, welcome to the forum.

You don't specify what your job is with your present company. This link is to a previous posting which sets out some of the IT skills that NZ is finding it hardest to recruit. Don't know whether you can see your job on the list. I think you need to search for your particular job title rather than just IT, which covers a large area.

Not sure what to recommend with regard to your wife. I gather what you are saying is that she currently has a job title mentioned in the EOI guide, but what's detailed in there isn't actually what she does? I think I'd be inclined to find a job description that matches what she's doing now, and then fiddle about with the job title afterwards.

Thanks for the response! The link you added didn't work so I couldn't review it.

Your assumption about my wife's occupation is correct and we have identified an alternative job title(common sense) , but can't find a description about it and thus don't know whether it really is aligned with what she does.
In terms the first point it's more around what industry we're in, which is IT , but i simply can't see IT in the drop down list...

I don't know which list you are looking on but I found headings for Information Communications Technology (ICT) ? Electronics and Information Communications Technology (ICT) ? Information Technology (IT) Professionals on the Long Term Skills Shortages List . If you click 'next' and go to the bottom of the page, it starts there and goes over the page. I may be barking up the wrong tree, but I'm not quite sure whether it's the skills shortages you are trying to look at.

I tested my previous link again and it seems to work OK for me. It's a link to an old posting on this forum about IT requirements in NZ.

Do you know the INDUSTRY code for ICT?
IE Industry Code Industry Description
A011100 Plant Nurseries
A011200 Cut Flower and Flower Seed Growing

Also, I am an IT Support Manager, but in the descriptions:

10 IT PROFESSIONAL

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Includes Computer Application Engineer, Systems Manager, Systems Development Staff, Solutions Architect and IT Management Staff.

So it doesn't list my specific occupation!

Your title has 2 important words in it - IT and MANAGER.

String those together to make 'IT Manager' and you have your official NZ job title. It doesn't matter that you are a support manager, or if you were a technical manager or operations manager etc, you are an IT manager.

Hope that helps!
