Default once given the go ahead do u hav to go within a time frame?

Hi there, can anyone tell me if once you get your residency granted do you have a period of time that you have to go by? If you miss that slot do you then have to apply all over again??? any answers to this very welcome :icon_confused:

hi suz
i believe when you get your residence visa you get 12 months
to get to nz where you get given your residece permits
i think you will have to reapply if you dont arrive in that time
or have a very good reason to extend time frame
hope this helps

What about can you travel out of NZ after arriving on PR? I read somewhere that you have to stay in NZ for a 2 years before you can get a return visa or something similar?

From the time you are granted PR, you have 6 months to pay the migrant levy for each person on the application. At that time, they give you the stamp in the passport. You then have 12 months to enter NZ. When you enter, you are given a returning resident's visa which is good for two years (you can enter and leave as many times as you want in that time). If you want to make progress toward citizenship, you need to be in NZ 6 months out of every year and not get into trouble.

But technically, once you are granted PR, you have 18 months to enter. You could turn around and leave the next day if you wanted to, and you would not need to go through the process again.

My brother has just got his final permanent residency - he was resticted to the number of times he could come & go from NZ and he had to spend a specified amount of time in the country. Now he can leave the country for indefinate lengths of time and still return without any problems.

My interpretation of people on this forum is that as soon as you get PR granted, they are off like a shot!

Nick
