Aw, you meanie. Still, if poor Stevey's luck is anything to go by, you're probably very wise.

Default Nurse registration question

Has anyone actually successfully registered with the Nursing Council of NZ. If so, how long did this take?

Default Nurse registration question

Yes

My sister in law did - took about 8-10 weeks to get processed. She is well qualified with 10 years + experience in coronary care though. She says the paperwork was a bit long winded, but worth it in the end

Default Nurse registration question

Hi all,

not sure if this will help anyone, but this is my experience of registering with the Midwifery Council. I graduated in Scotland as a midwife in October 2004. No jobs in Scotland so I didn't have a post as a midwife. I still registered with the NMC in the UK, I think this helps with registering in NZ. I applied for a postition in NZ and was accepted straight away (no problem getting a job as a nurse or midwife in NZ). Then we applied for a skilled migrant visa. I got 50 points for my qualification and an extra 10 or 5 points for being on the priority occupation list. I didn't get any points for work experience as I had not worked as a midwife in the UK. The nex part was applying for NZ registration. This took forever (approx 10 weeks) and was a very expensive process. The once you get registered you have to apply for an annual practising certificate, another 4 weeks and about $600. I had no problems getting my qualification recognised as we are more qualified in the UK than our kiwi counterparts. I have a Diploma by the way, all Kiwis have degrees but they are very different to ours. Whoever was asking about the Self Assessment, all I can say is OH MY GOD!!!! I found this really difficult. I eventuall worked through my CAP booklet (Clinical Assessments) and tied this in with the questions in the self assessment for NZCOM. I photocopied the booklet and sent this off for support documentation.

I have now been working as a staff midwife in Auckland for 6 months. It is very different to the way I am used to, but I am starting to settle and it all seems to be worth the hassle now.

If anyone has any questions, let me know and I'll try to answer them as best as I can.

Good luck to you all.
