Default Nurse registration question

hi where do you want me to start some things good some things bad. lots of foreign nuses here leading to lots of differant languages , and all those problems . technology is quite far behind about 20 yrs and so are some of the practices.. but dont dare suggest a differant way to do things because you will get shot down in flames . there are very few unqualified nurses at north shore hospitalauckland)and trained nurses do all the hands on work , which is great for the patients but hard for you coming from uk as you only know whats going on with your own patients not like in uk where yoy deal with either half or all of ward . but teamwork is poor where i work so if you have a heavy load you r on your own !! on the plus side educational opportunities are great , there are lots of posts so you really can pick and choose and there is a big government driven initiative for community care so if thats where you want to be its great. things are nowhere near as stressful lol because if you have managed your caseload well your work is done .. people frequently refused my help as it is their work !!! they are hugely into primary nursing which has its advantages and disadvantages as with most models of care ,but if you have worked within health service in uk you will be hugely valued here our training seems to be a bit better than some other countries and you sometimes have to babysit other nurses . one nurse is designated to be in charge on a certain day , but not always most senior nurse , and sometimes new grad nurses struggle which is a huge challenge . but hey its bloody sunny here today my son is out in shorts and sunnies , ny daughter loves it now and all of it is worth it eventually. please dont expect things to be easy .. imagine a holiday from hell and then double it and thats how you will feel sometimes when you get here , ive only been here 10 months and am only just starting to settle good luck, lainy

hi im general trained, but for all jobs just now there seems to be plenty of opportunity to move , uk nurses are well thought of here ( and u will understand what i mean when you get here ) and in auckland there seems to be plenty of jobs available in community , i work in ortho rehab though and there is a huge initiatve coming in for care in the community .. though not as drastic as in the uk . they do seem to learn here from mistakes the uk system has made. why are you using an agency .. some of the philopinos here have and they take a good whack off of you , why not just check out the websites like jobpulse and apply for jobs independantly . they do telephone interviews and online referances so its all easy i had job offer and contract before i even booked my flight. good luck lainyx

hi suz i dont know for sure if the agency you are dealing with will take money from you but be careful as some of the girls i work with pay a fair bit to some agencies , yes these girls are mainly philopino but hey be careful. it can be expensive living in auckland but i think the wages are better here .. dont quote me on that one someone else may be better equipped to answer that . north shore hospital certainly dont do meet and greets but ask around , are you coming alone ? because they do offer nurses accomodation . your best bet is to ask before you commit there are lots of jobs so dont take the first offer .. good luck lainyx

Default Nurse registration question

Hi all you learned nurses!

Wondering if you can help me. I finish my diploma course next Sept, and we are all moving out in earlier oct. The visa isnt an issue as my husband has a job offer & we have 175 points. However I want to work part time in the Nelson area, but I wont have any post grad experience, so my questions are;

1. How much experience, if any, will i have to accrue before they will look at me for a job?

2. Assuming that the answer to 1. is at least "some", whats the best way of getting experience?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Jacky
