Default Is it worth applying for Expression of Interest?

Just joined your site. We visited New Zealand 3 yrs ago. We both liked the place very much. Would welcome any advice. My husband has just turned 55 yrs, and I am 53 yrs. He is a fully qualified Heavy goods Mechanic working mainly on Diesel engines I am qualified in both catering and have a Associated British travel agents certificate but currently working for a local housing association.

1.Would we qualify for the skilled migrant visa?
2.Is my husband to old at 55 yrs.
3. Is it worth securing a job first before applying.
Any advice greatly received [smiley=icon_biggrin.gif] [smiley=icon_biggrin.gif]

If you hurry, before your husband turns 56, you might be able to do it. Here's the page that mentions age limits: http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra...hatisrequired/
Good luck.

If you go into that same link and browse through the topics on the right hand side, it might tell you a bit about the skills shortages that allow you to apply for a work visa.

If you can secure a job before heading for NZ, it is always worthwhile as, apart from the added security of a job to go to, you can gain extra points towards qualifying.

Default Advice

Thanks for your valuable advice . My husband has just registered with a job agency in new zealand, hopefully if he gets a job offer this will increase our points & chances on expression of interest. Will keep you posted with any further developments.

Just thought I would update you.
Tried phoning last night. Unsuccessfully. We e mailed our case worker with my certificates, but she will not accept mine without verification from NZQA. As she states to gain level 4 you must have done an apprenticeship. Which in theory I have, but proving it another matter. So we are paying out for both of us just incase one of us doesn't make the grade. So we are praying that they come back in time.

Bummer! What a pain. Who did you try contacting? Was it NZIS or NZQA? I think NZQA can be quite helpful and responsive if you email them.

Yes
Life a bitch. But it's too late now we have done the pre assessment on line.
We think she may be one of these jobs worth. They are after all pulling the strings, and we have to dance to their tune so to speak.
