Hello,

I'm new to forum, (but have posted a couple of questions on different subjecys). I'm not sure what is the best route to take. I score 125 on the points indicator without a job offer and will score 175 with one (getting a job won't be a problem as I am a nurse).

Now, do I apply for EOI now or wait until I have a job offer. I've already been selected for several telephone interviews but have put them on hold as we need to sell our house in order to come to NZ. If I accept a job now they would like me to start in around 4 months, which I can't do. We could however come over on working visa and then apply once we get to NZ, but it may take 12 months to sell the house and our application could be well underway by then.

Hmmmm.....grateful for any advice. Thankyou :006:

lyn,
this is how we did it.

my wife is a newly qualified midwife.
she spoke to an agency called tonix in nz and they got her a shot at a newly qualified midwifery programme at masterton hospital.

We needed the job offer to get the 100 points (required at the time) and with the job offer we had 155 points.

That all happened towards the end of november,
I got the eoi in just before the last selection on the old system on the 21st december.
Since then, it's been stress city,
police checks , were a nightmare.. make sure this is one of the first things you do. You'll need them for nz registration, (you probably know that already) (also, for nz registration, you'll have a self assessment form to do.. this took my wife ages and ages and massive amounts of wine to complete.)
we still haven;t got the house on the market, should be in the next few days.. our medicals are on the 2nd feb.. and her start date in masterton is now the 18th april..

I haven't really answered your question, i know, but , whilst i don't know what the housing market is like where you are, it might be worth just going for it..

we are stressed eric and erica at the moment, but touch wood, in 63 days time, i'll be sat on my deck , with a bottle of red watching my first kiwi sunset..

thats what keeps me going...

good luck.

thanks nattydread,

I'll give tonix a look, I've looked at a couple of agencies and looked at getting a job direct with the DHB. I think as far as the house is concerned we will just go for it and put it on the market now. it may take 12 months to sell you just don't know.

I take it that the police check is the CRB check we do in the UK for all our nursing jobs. I'm joining a nursing agency here so that will be done as part of that application as my previous one has expired (they are only valid for 6 months) Do you have to send this off with your registration to the NZ nursing council?

Sorry if I sound a bit vague but I need to get the order of doing things right

would you say:

1/NZ nursing registration
2/apply for job
3/ EOI

I've got all the forms but and now wondering what to do with them?

It hasn't taken long for you from start to now, my fear is doing all this and not selling house and job start date imminent! :icon_confused: We cannot go without selling the house as we would have to subsedise it by ?200 a month to rent it out in the interim.

Thanks again and good luck (wish we were in your shoes)

you are spot on with your 1,2,3 steps..

and yes you need the police check for the registration.
I'm not sure that these police checks are the same as your CRB ones you mentioned..

The one for registration (and the ITA) need to say specifically somewhere that the national computer has been checked..

We're in that position you mention at the bottom of your post.
We MUST have the house sold before we go.
If it doen;t sell before our departure dates then we may need to think about my wife and one of the kids going and me and the other one staying behind..

touch wood. it'll all work out..

Good Luck to you.. Tonix have been great for us by the way..
The job offer we got, was one of those offers you just can't turn down.
We had intended waiting a few months,. but the offer was just too good.

best of luck..

Is a police officer in Northern Ireland classed as a skilled job or will it get any extra points in any other category?

Hi Patrick,

Not sure is the answer to your question, however if you look on the New Zealand immigration web site, they do list all of the jobs that fall into the skills shortage categories. You can also do the quick points calculator on their to see where you stand.

Hope that helps

Hello Johnty-

Considering that you don't need to submit any documents with your EOI, I don't think it matters at this point. I'm not sure if NZIS cares about current addresses on those two documents. On my US passport, it only says to cross out the old addy and write in the new one. I think it's more important that you are indeed the person on those docs, and that they are valid. Good luck!

I wouldn't worry too much about it, depending on how long ago you moved. If it's been a few years, then you should really change it, if its very recent (last couple of months) then I wouldnt bother. It's used for ID purposes on your ITA, and thats all.

In the UK you can get in to deep water if you don't update your license.
