Do you want to know if your area of work will be classed as 'Skilled'?

If so, then post it here and we'll find out!

Default Skilled or Not

Hi All

Im a lift engineer and have worked in this trade for nearly thirty years, all the companys in the UK recognise my Qualification, BTECs gained over seven years, but the NZQA on a preassement only gave them a level 3 which is no good if you need the extra points to place an EOI :icon_sad: .
So our options are to get a work visa so we can get out to NZ before the company who has offered me a job gets fed up of waiting.
My question is how do I go about this from the UK?:icon_question:
Also would I need to be licensed. If so what doe's it entail?

Thanks all

Bill

Hi Bill,

Apologies, I don't think I can help much, but do you not get a fair fistfull of points for having a job offer (90 off the top of my head) in NZ?

I've only just got my head around our EOI, and I'm still expecting to be told I've filled it in wrong *?&%$*

Hi MIilliemoo

Its only 50 points for a job offer, so I've only got to 90 points.
Without my quals being recognised as a level 4 I can not put in an EOI.
Shame as the points are so low now.

Good Luck
Bill

Bill,
Have you checked the occupational shortages list? That might give you the extra few points you are short on.

Hi Taffy

I have looked on the occupational shortages list but was unable to find "Lift Engineer" it's a trade unto itself, we are electrical and mechnical, but are not electricians or mecanical engineers. Will have to have another look.

Thank Taff

Bill

Bill,
Do you think you could squeeze in as an electrical engineer, elecro-mechanical or mechanical engineer?

I'm sure at least one of those in on the lists!

Hi Taff

It not on the OSL I've just check, will have to go out on a work visa when the house is sold.
It's funny, I thought they wanted skilled people. I've even found myself a job, which is going to be an expansion of an exsiting business.
Ahh well, where theres a will theres a way, I've not given up yet.

best of luck

Bill

Hi Bill,
Just a thought... If you go out on a work visa, how will you then go on to gain residency? If you only score 90 points with a job offer, you will still be stuck! If you worked there for over 12 months, you would gain an extra 10 points taking you to 100, but who knows what the points will be after a year!

Or have I completely misunderstood what you have said and you just need a job offer to make up the points??
