Talking Finally getting my teen to school

Well we had a look around the school for my daughter yesterday.
It wasnt the one she planned as they arent taking any new kids in,so she wouldnt be able to start until feb. Which is far too long away.
So i got in touch with the local high school here, and took her around it.
it was like my old secondary school
Really quite old fashioned, but the kids seemed really nice and friendly.
The enrollment woman took us into an art class (Nicoles into art and photography)to meet the teacher, who seemed really nice and easy, relaxed with the kids.
The kids were all lovely, smiling away at her
I feel much better now,as i know she will make pals easily.
She isnt starting until 21st july, thats the start of next term.
The lady said she could come in for 1 day before,or she could start just now(which nearly gave my daughter a heartattack) As the b/f is coming on monday.
As soon as he goes back we will get her into school, and that will keep her mind occupied.
The uniforms are steep price though.
Luckily she doesnt need to wear the kilt,as they are about 200 bucks, and she will only have to wear uniform for half a term, because of her age.
She can wear black trousers, which she has.
The jumper is about 100 and the shirts about 70
Shame as she will only be wearing them a short time.
Still it will be worth it to get her out and off that laptop, and make pals.

Let's hope your daughter will settle well in her new school and won't be moping too much when the b/f returns to the UK. Good info about the cost of the school uniform which will give others an idea of what they'll have to pay out.

Thta'll be great for her Meadow. I sometimes wish we'd put Lauren into school instead of waiting around for uni, anyway what's done is done.

It's good to hear she can wear trousers, here in Hamilton the girls don't have that option!! Can you believe it? Well, watch this space because if they havent changed the policy before Poppy goes up in a few years I will be campaigning - talk about inequality. We'll have none of that!!!!!

My sons uniform cost $45 for a zip up fleece, $30 per polo shirt, $30 per pair of shorts. He can wear whatever he likes for PE. He must wear black shoes/trainers and black, white or navy socks.

The fleece has washed and kept well, so have the polo shirts, but his shorts are looking a bit faded and crap. One of my biggest bug-bears here is that most of the clothing is crap quality and fades and drops to bits in a few washes. Glad to see this stuff is holding up a little better. He used to go through at least 4 pairs of trousers a term in UK - you know what lads are like playing footy on the tarmac - they usually had tears from shin to knee within a month! He's grown sooooooo fast this last year, so the shorts have been a God-send

    Cheers M b and Dawn
Yeah my 7 yrolds uniform was much same prices Dawn, the primarys are quite a bit cheaper.
His fleece is good too, though its a total fluff catcher, but im finding that with loads clothes here. I dont know if its the top loader
I thought the price for my daughter jumper is a shocker. ive not bought it yet,but depending on size its going to cost between $84-$115
Its a plain black v neck with the school logo
Ive got the list here in front of me and the black shirt or grey short sleeve is $58.50,the long sleeve is $71.50
Black trousers are $76.00,im sure i will dig them up elsewhere, maybe warehouse for quite a bit less.
The jacket is a black waterproof costing $198.00, so again no way. I got her a lovely wee black jacket, cosy too for 60 bucks. At least she will wear this out of school too.
The boyfriend is arriving tomorrow,so shes all happy, but at least the school will keep her occupied when he goes back, and hopefully make some pals.

I'm quite happy to send out "emergency rations" of school wear from M&S/BHS/Debenhams etc if anyone wants to order - I cannot believe how much you are having to pay for school uniforms over there probably good that we decided to come back to UK before the kids went to school!! I've just ordered Frankie's uniform (starts primary school in September, she'll be 4 years and 10 days!! My baby!! ) and I don't think its cost me more than about 70 for the entire lot (polo shirts, sweatshirts, trousers, skirts)

    Hi Maggiemoo
The school uniforms have to have the logos on them.
My kids school in Scotland was the same. Well the sec was more strict than the primary back in Glasgow.
Im just more annoyed at buying my daughters as its only for half a term, after that she can go in her own clothes(mufti) as long as they are tidy, and the guidelines say dont be disrespectful to themselves of their families
    Thought that was good.
In Glasgow even 6th yrs had to still wear uniform.
They are strict here to, about piercings. She has her lip pierced and they told her it has to come out, which isnt pleasing her.
But she can always put it in at lunchtimes and home time, stop it closing up.
