Eeew, eeew and triple eeew @ selchie's post

My dear old mum is obsessed with facecloths - no-one is allowed to use one more than once before it gets washed

My pet peeve is OH not making the bed (take note Taff ). I try and leave the house tidy in the morning, before I leave for work and there's nothing worse than coming home and seeing quilts and pillows strewn all over the place AND yesterday's clothes on the floor

I think I would be correct in saying that Taffy's pet peeve is me turning on the air-conditioning - I like it cold, he likes it hot Oh, and also if he leaves things out (tools, etc) I always put them away and he can never find them - my argument is, if he put them away himself in the first place, he'd know exactly where they are

Well said Lisa.

I agree with the bed too- it takes 30seconds to straighten the duvet out so why can't they do it?

I would be with him on that one. I don't like the a/c as it blocks my nose and makes my bones ache. We have to have it on here so I compromise by having it on in the hallway and the landing areas so the cooling can filter around gently to the other areas instead of blasting directly onto me. It's bad for necks too if you get in the way of the draught.

Doesn't the lad know that white tailed spiders like nothing more than hiding up in piles of clothes left on the floor? Get him to read the Where Found section on here - that should cure him!

That's it - ow I'm convinced. You lot are completely anal. You all would get on with Gary wonderfully. He's the winger, moaner, tidier upper in our house. 'You lot don't appreciate this. Where's your respect for me and what I think is important?' Don't do it then, we can tidy up after ourselves when we're ready. Put something down for 10 seconds it's gone, tidied away, move something back where you want it, he moans about where it should be (in his opinion), I tidy things up, he tidies up again coz it's not where he wants it. ANAL!!!!

You know, I actually remember being like this for a while when I was first married (to an arsehole who expected everything done for him) and a mum for the first time. It was before I realised that there was a life waiting for me if I could bear not to do the dishes for the fourth time that day or spend endless extra minutes on habitual laundry routines, hoover up twice a day, keep my daughter spotlessly clean, wipe down the worktops AGAIN. When you fill your day with such mundane crap (somehow smacks of the victorian era when women did all of this stuff because men decided it was all their tiny brains could cope with) you prevent yourself from looking outside of it. If you enjoy being shackled to your day by mundane bullshit then carry on - me I'd rather get what stuff needs to be done out of the way as quickly as possible with minimum fuss and then focus on having a life

Whatever happened to the saying 'Tidy house, desk, whatever - tidy mind'?

I don't necessarily do things because I HAVE to, it's because I want to. If I'm too busy doing other things then my chores get left until I can fit them in. I'm not a slave to them. I guess it's down to how you are and what you can live with. Also what has been instilled in you as you were growing up.

I remember my mother visiting my house in the UK and running her finger along the skirting board, then holding it up for me to see the dust. Shock, horror . It did make me feel like I'd failed in my duties and I've always been a bit sensitive about 'being found out' ever since. Hah! She should see it here, where dust is an everyday detail that just won't go away, no matter how many times I clean. I refuse to beat myself up about it as it's a fact of life and I don't have a maid like most of the other women do. That's not to say I don't like to keep the place tidy so we can find things easily (important at our age) and it's more comfortable if someone drops in.

I hope you Females don't mind if a male pitches in couple of comments .
well i believe that keeping the house hold clean and looking after the kids properly is both parties responsibility. But for instance lets say if male is working and female is a housewife then female will be more responsible for looking after the house and vice versa.
If you are a working couple then the household responsibilities should be equal too.
i have seen a lot of domestic cases where people ignore these simple facts and fall victims of violence and abuse.
me and my partner are very lucky in this department we both understand each other perfectly .

I started this thread just to vent my frustration at some things in life. Doesn't mean I am ruled by them or obessesed with all things clean. There must be things that every one gets annoyed about - the hoon who cuts you up on the roads, the shopper who pushes in the queue, call centres where you never speak to a human just an automated voice!!! Doesn't mean to say we react to them. I don't go round the house shouting at everyone because they have not put a new loo roll on or tidied the plates into neat piles - I accept that is the way they are but it still annoys me. We just need a place to vent these frustrations so we can carry on with enjoying life.

navtejDhillon brings up valid points which I doubt any of us would disagree with. No worries on a fella speaking up, even with this bunch of women, nD.

Everyone has their own "tidy index" or mess tolerance, Dawn. I don't spend piles of time on cleaning, mostly because there are only two mess-makers and two fuzz-makers in the house. But I do like my messes to be tidy ones. Can't find the table or kitchen counter, otherwise. Just don't look behind the curtains in the attic!
