Interesting. I did learn that rhododendron honey was toxic to humans. We have lots of rhodies where I live now. However, its bloom time does not correspond to the time when beekeepers put on the honey supers (the boxes that will collect "harvestable" honey). The bees use it to feed the hive, and all is OK. It sounds like I'll need to learn about local blooms when in NZ.
I'm itching to get my bees - about a month to go!
