At least you have a roof over your head - albeit and damaged one You must have the patience of a saint either that or have just given up the fight. I wouldn't blame you after all you have been through. Glad to see you back online - you have been sorely missed.

It was a case of talking to a brick wall and not getting anywhere. After ranting and raving (hubster's dept.) and a couple of strongly worded (but politely put) emails (my dept.) we managed to get some things on the move but it's been such hard work and always with the feeling that we could come unstuck. Over and over again, promises were made and assurances given that never materialised when they should have.

It was so strange that we just couldn't get anyone motivated enough to finish the house so we could move in. They seemed to think it would all happen automatically once we'd moved in (no doubt thinking we'd do it ourselves). The cowboy contractor must have had his spurs finely tuned as he's just thrown this place together with the minimum of effort and even less skill and has now conveniently ducked out of the equation. Salwa's take on the situation is 'I can only ask him to do it, if he doesn't what else can I do?'

One day I'll have to sit down and make a list of everything that's been faulty here and see how it looks. Might provide a good laugh in the future. I had a little yesterday when the guy, appointed by Salwa to work miracles on the house, finally turned up for duty. He's in charge of electrics, plumbing and other repair works and he turned up at the gate on foot with a carrier bag in his hand. He has no vehicle, travels everywhere by taxi and he has no work bag or equipment. Luckily we've got some stuff he's been able to use but heaven help anyone else who doesn't carry as much around with them as we do. Still, as long as he does a good job, that's fine by me. Time will tell.

Another little detail that tickled me a bit is that the removal men didn't pack our furniture, they wrapped it in blankets. I thought it was cute seeing it all snuggled up in wraps, albeit very dusty wraps as I found out when they were removed. They take the bigger furniture apart and wrap each piece separately. Then they reassemble it at the other end. It's a good service although it does cost plenty.

Selchie, I think I'll use this episode as training for NZ housing although our house down there is steadily being put to rights with the assistance of Taffy and WG, so I'm hoping it'll be in reasonable nick by the time we get there. Having said that, it has had its fair share of problems after being worked on by the last owner who had a penchant for (very bad) DIY.

You DID tell Taffy to use PVC glue on the pipe joints, didn't you?

I hope you're not sticking that nasty, hot, burny thing on poor, innocent cows. Can't you just slap sticky labels on them instead? Much more animal-friendly. (Registering disgust because Omantel has started blocking all my German-based smiley websites, including one with my favourite cow smiley. Bah!)

I also can't be held accountable for a dodgy batch of solder

My new solder worked very well, and so far no smoke has been seen pouring from Dawns laptop.

I'm not branding cows with hot pokery things. I believe ear clips are the order of the day here!

If those are milk moos, perhaps you could send some product to Macfod? I don't think he'd want supplies if they're the "other" kind of moos.

Here are some kuhs from one of the German sites, MB. Why are they blocking them, do you know?
