Default Finding the right motto

I found this amusing but a bit too close to the truth for Brits.

Wanted: the great Kiwi motto .

Right now the US could use a more accurate one. Sentiments like "Land of the free and home of the brave" just aren't true anymore.

Less brave, and thus less free, every day.

Growing up in Connecticut, not far from the home of Nathan Hale, who famously said, 'I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country,' I am saddened that we've allowed ourselves to fall for the cries of 'terror, terror, terror.' We survived the Cold War (against a country with real WMD's rather than fake ones) without having to take off our shoes at the airport, lock up people indefinitely on no evidence whatsoever, and suspending habeas corpus.

I worry, though, that soon NZ will fall into the same trap. Talking about the recent 'terrorism' arrests, one piece of viewer mail said 'NZ has terrorists. What makes us think we're any different from the rest of the world?' I shudder to think that this attitude may catch on.

Here are my suggestions for the NZ motto:
'Will the last one out please turn off the lights?'
'Thank you Peter Jackson'
'Who needs rugby ... we have Drink Driving!'
'Want some? Get some! (wink wink, nudge nudge)'
'Criminals and retarded monkeys? No, that's Australia.'
'Land of the long white cloud and short black coffee'
'New Zealand--A wholly owned subsidiary of China, Inc.' (That one works for the USA, too.)
'When good enough is, well, just too much.'

All meant in good fun!

A few suggestions for the kiwi slogan . There's several other pages if you look at the bottom, which give some insight to how kiwis see their own country.

Some fav's from the list:

"Just because we have nothing to complain about, doesn't mean we won't"

"She'll be right mate"

'Sweet as'

"NZ - keep it a secret"

New Zealand: No snakes, no moas, no hobbits.

"Stick a ferret in your pants and be done with it lad"

"New Zealand: Kia Ora, Bro!"

"Welcome to NZ. Forget about the future and live in the past."

"Nothing's perfect - this'll do"

"Just like Australia but with nice people, water, grass, sheep, mountains, a flourishing indigenous culture, real beer, women who can read, a Prime Minister who hates war, and Paul Holmes."

"New Zealand - if you don't like this one, well, you you should have seen the Old one."

"New Zealand, if you don't like it then bloody leave, head off to Aussie and raise the IQ of both countries"

"World famous. In NZ"

"New Zealand - striving for mediocrity since 1840"

"12 hours ahead, 20 years behind"

My absolute favorite:

'We don't know how lucky we are.'

I saw this story in The Press yesterday and had a good giggle. I think that Dipso fatso bingo asbo Tesco is the best by far. A modern classic. Morrisey would have been proud!

As for the Kiwi motto, it could only be....

"And the time in New Zealand is 1974"
