Good old Wiki.

My OH usually makes it with the eggs a dash of milk some salt and peeper.
Fried in olive oil- (probably too much but that's his way- we don't have it very often) and then a splash of sauce on the top once cooked (brown sauce is my preferance- the kids go for tomato ketchup and OH likes his hot with some Tabasco)

You are all wrong wrong wrong!!

Dippy bread is neither French toast nor eggy bread - in fact it doesn't involve eggs anywhere along the line

But I'm going to keep you all guessing a wee while longer cos I'm nice like that......

Well, I won't say I'm disappointed that it's not eggy bread because I'm always on the lookout for something new and tasty, so this should be a bonus IF WE EVER GET TO FIND OUT WHAT IT IS .

The debate about whether you call it French Toast , Dippy Bread or Eggy Bread reminds me of that other great test of social class....

Do you call them......

.....Kellogs or Cornflakes?

Ah ha!

Why did I, the American, know something about the UK that all the Poms didn't?

BTW, IMHO the best French Toast is made with a slightly stale baguette and served with butter and maple syrup. Yummy!

Do people generically call cornflakes "Kelloggs"? It doesn't make as much sense as calling any cola Coke.

WG is not very nice

WG is not very nice but I am and I will tell you.

I thought it was eggy bread aka french toast when Nick first mentioned it to me but it's nothing like that at all. You hollow out an unsliced loaf and fill it with stuff then bake it in the oven but I got chucked out of the chat room before I got to hear what you serve it with and I assume that it's this part of the recipe that gives it it's 'dippy' part of the title.

Ner ner ner ner ner ner WG P>S> How you finding the UK in November?

Ekky thump. When I were a lad, thee had a choice o' Kellogs or Kellogs. T'weren't none o' them own brand products. Kellogs were cornflake and cornflakes were Kellogs.
