Default Clairvoyance

Following on from the recent thread about 'ghosts and ghoulies and things that go bump in the night' I thought I would share my experience of clairvoyancy.

About 6 years ago my father died. A year later I was on holiday and they had a visiting clairvoyant. Being more curious than a believer I booked a reading. She gave me a 10 year forecast. At the beginning of the reading she told me that I was very lucky as I had a spirit guide - apparently not many people have one of these - and they are usually someone who has passed over recently who you were close to. My dad sprang to mind. She told me that I would buy a house abroad and move abroad within the next 10 years; my oldest child would work in IT either in graphics or the more technical side and there were other things that I can't quite remember. This year we went to the same place and the same clairvoyant was there. This time she gave me a 5 year reading. She told me that I would move house but there would be a lot of dithering - will we,won't we etc... but eventually we would move. It would not be for financial gain but for a better quality of life and lifestyle improvement. She said she could see white or pale houses and water - either a river or lake. She also said that she could see me working either in a school or college which would likely be conected to my current line of work (I am a nurse so could become a nurse trainer). There were other things she said that could happen.

It was weird because 6 years ago we had never discussed moving and certainly not abroad and this year I had not mentioned anything to her about moving or emigrating - I take this as a sign that we will be joining you all in NZ next year. As for the school & teaching I think she may have been confused between me and my daughter - she is off to Uni to begin her studies and hopes to be a teacher eventually. All in all I was a little impressed but there are many grey areas that can be interpreted by every one to relate to something in their lives.

I wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience?

Ah, clairvoyants. There’s the good, the bad and the oh cor blimey.

Until I moved abroad, I was around the odd clairvoyant or two as one of my mother’s best friends was one. I didn’t really rate Myra as she never gave me anything positive that I could relate to, yet other people flocked to her. My mother said it was because Myra was too close to us and knew too much about our goings on.

One time, my mother decided that Myra should come to my house (which was an old lodge or gate house) to see if she could pick up anything from there. I was, at that time, working at a hospital, and, as I would be going to work after my meeting with Myra, I had my uniform on. As Myra settled herself down she asked if I realised I wasn’t alone in the house. Not exactly what one wants to hear . She said a little old lady had emerged from where the fireplace was and walked across to stand next to me. She said she felt the woman used to live in the house and acknowledged me with some affection and was nodding and smiling as if she recognised my uniform. She also said that her name could be Ivy or Ida and she was bent over like she was suffering from curvature of the spine. It was a bit unnerving to think some unseen person from another dimension was that close to me. I don’t remember any chill in the air as is sometimes felt when a ghost is around and I couldn’t feel anything, not even the hairs on the back of my neck standing up. The old lady then passed on through the wall.

I wasn’t entirely convinced about all this but was, nevertheless, intrigued. Having an investigative (read 'nosey') nature, when I went into work I started digging around for information and also, outside of work, I managed to find a record of who had lived in the property before me. Three lots of people before me was an Ida Collard which I tied up with the name Myra had given me. With that name I was able to check in this lady’s medical records (where I worked at the time) and found that she had indeed been a patient in our hospital a quite a few months earlier. She had died in the hospital and, when I spoke to a nurse who had been with Ida, she told me that she had lain in her bed curled up, as her spine was bent. She also confirmed that Ida was a tiny woman like Myra’s ‘little old lady’.

The theory was that the spirits of dead people often revisit places where they were happiest and that's why Ida had returned to the house. It was felt that she recognised my uniform and may even have recognised me as I did go onto the wards occasionally. The fireplace that she emerged from hadn’t always been there, so she could have been following her normal route through the house. It was quite exciting to follow up on this revelation that I wasn’t living alone in the house and see it through to its conclusion. Fortunately, I wasn’t at all alarmed by the thought that I had unseen guests wandering about the place and didn’t lose any sleep over it. Had the presence been more malevolent, it could have been an entirely different story. It took me months to recover from seeing The Exorcist and I take great steps to avoid any similar supernatural films, so that’s how bad I am.

I have seen other clairvoyants over the years, some good and some a waste of space. One I used to see about once a year told me I would get married again, do a lot of travelling and live in other countries. In fact he told me quite a few things that came to pass and that I could identify with but, towards the end, he seemed to prefer talking over his own problems with me more than discussing what the future held for me. He seemed to think I would get what I wanted in life and I suppose I have in a way, so he let it go at that. We instead discussed the love of his life, his pigeons, which his wife hated and she was also opposed to his clairvoyancy readings so he had to make sure he booked them on his wife’s bingo night when she was out of the way. He had given me some insight into my future, so I didn’t mind listening to him pouring his heart out. Only things is, I was paying him for the privilege

Interesting stories there. Wish I had one to share but unfortunately my one and only visit didn't go too well.

I went with a freind who's reading I sat in with which went really well but when it came to my turn I couldn't relate to anything she said really and nothing has clicked into place since (was about 4yrs ago).

I do find this kind of thing very interesting but am yet to be proved that it works. I wouldn't mind having past life regression done- just to be curious.

We went to see one here, and MY GOD was she the biggest waste of space and money EVER!

She was a pom on tour in NZ, doing group sessions. Out of the 2 hours we were there, most of the time she spent talking a load of crap about how the supernatural works, and when she did finally get around to people, very few could relate to anything she said, and those that could relate were just trying to make things fit.

She picked on me, and said I wanted to be a fireman (yeah, like I'd pass the fitness test!) but I wasn't too bright so only did manual labour jobs. She then asked me what I did - oops! When I told her I was a web applications developer and IT engineer, she swiftly moved on.

So to you, Violet Tasker, GIVE IT UP!

Not too keen on clairvoyants myself as I went to one when expecting my fourth child and she was certain it was a girl (it was not).

However, we went to one in when deciding whether to go to Australia or New Zealand. She seemed to think we were going to be moving to South Australia or Melbourne area and would have no trouble selling the house. She got both of those wrong, but she did say that my husband was going to have a dreadful time with his father (yep, that happened) and that she saw him travelling in aeroplanes back and forth across the world (that's come about). She was also certain she saw a divorce, but we dismissed her fears on those grounds ... so she decided she must be seeing a 'divorce' coming about between son and father (she was right the first time). Funnily enough, even with the talk of divorce, she saw us all happy and prosperous ... I'm still waiting for the prosperous bit!

Taffy, that's brilliant and made me laugh out loud.

A friend of mine in the UK 'does' spiritual readings and has got a weekly spot on local radio. Most people think she's crackers, but I have to say (hand on heart) she has come out with some incredible 'predictions' over the years.

When I first met her in 2002, she said I would be moving overseas, but not for three or four years. That was before we'd even submiited an EOI. We moved out here in 2006.

Later on, when we'd been approved in principle, she said that we would 'end up' in Christchurch. At that stage, we didn't have a clue where we wanted to live, but guess where we are now.

While I was doing my masters degree, she also told me that I was going to get a B+. I laughed because my university didn't award grades at masters level. Except they did, for dissertations. Mine got a B+.

You could say that she 'guessed' all of those things, but I think there's more to it than that. For as long as I can remember, I've had a recurring dream about Hadrian's Wall. Apparently, I was a Roman soldier and used to live there, but that's another story....................

Psychic addicts shell out big dollars
By REBECCA TODD - The Press | Monday, 6 August 2007

South Island psychic hotline users are being sought for a global study looking at possible addiction to 0900 numbers.

Auckland University researcher Dr Robin Shepherd is investigating why people ring psychic hotlines and whether excessive use is a form of addictive behaviour.

The study includes hotline users from America, Canada, England and New Zealand.

Shepherd said the response from South Islanders had been limited to date.

"In America it's a billion dollar industry, I don't know how much they make here, but the study shows people here are not coming forward."

Preliminary results showed callers overseas were spending up to $33,000 a year on psychic hotlines, with each call costing between $5 and $300.

Shepherd said New Zealand addicts were a little more restrained, spending on average $800 a month.

About 90 per cent of those looking for advice were women. Weekends were the busiest times after people had been drinking, feeling lonely or just had a bust-up with their partner, she said.

"Regular callers use the same words as someone with a drink or drug problem, talking about relapses and falling off the wagon," she said.

Blocking calls to 0900 numbers was the usual response, but addicts would get their fix in other ways by going online, texting or even visiting psychics at their homes.

One woman from the study was convinced her bad luck was because of a bad spell, for which she paid the psychic $13,000 to remove. Another participant was a psychic hotline worker herself and was spending $6000 a month calling other lines.

Shepherd said psychic hotline companies were not held accountable to any regulations or guidelines.

She hoped her study would make policymakers take notice of the problem. "But there's the question of how do you qualify someone as a psychic?"

Skeptics New Zealand chairwoman Vicki Hyde said psychic hotlines were exploiting desperately vulnerable people.

She had heard stories of marriage break-ups after bad advice from psychics and of schizophrenics being told to go off their medication because the spirit world was trying to talk to them.

From here .

Although I think clairvoyance happens, I tend toward skepticism when someone proclaims themselves to be psychic and/or wants money for a reading. That said, I had my very own experience many years ago.

At the time, I was going to uni in Montana, and would dash back to California for holidays whenever I could. One night before I was to head back, I dreamt that I was moving in the dark. Suddenly I came to a lurching stop, which woke me up.

I wasn't normally in the habit of wearing my seatbelt in the car, but the next day I made sure I was strapped in. That night while driving through a dark valley in Idaho, a herd of deer crossed the road in front of me. I hit one deer; the car immediately came to a dead stop, and the engine & lights went out. The sensation was just like in my dream. Fortunately I was OK, and after getting towed into the nearest town my car was fixed the next day.

I now use my seatbelt without fail.
______

Now and again I get together with some friends and we practice reading the Tarot. Some of our readings have been pretty spot on, though Holly has yet to become an evil overlord. Some things take time.

What a scary experience Selchie.

Must admit that I have to believe in psychic experiences as, like you I've had the odd dream that has come true ... two were plane crashes.

If that is not bad enough, I can sometimes 'see' how someone has died. It used to happen very regularly - read a paper's headlines and see that person at the moment of death. Not the sort of 'gift' one wants. It is absolutely no good to anyone as it is just a few seconds and if I have too much information I think it tends to corrupt the 'impression'. Doesn't seem to work with tv and is one of the reasons I only buy a newspaper once a week.

I think most people have experienced ' deja vu' at one time or another. I have and it is really scary. However my OH is a twin and his twin died at birth. He says that he has always felt someone is with him and when some tragedies happen - either major disasters or someone well known or close to him dies he gets a cold feeling just before or at the time. He says it is scary but reassuring that he has someone close watching over him.
