Default Great Lawyer!

Hello,

Not too many people in Bermuda know about Bermy Girl and my plans to move to New Zealand. I stopped in to see my lawyer as I needed a copy of my passport certified for the house purchase. He handled all of the documentation for my son's adoption. The first words out of his mouth were "what are you up to now?". I said "I don't know what you mean, why would you think that?". He said "Shell, you always seem to have one project or another going on".

I told him that we were buying a house in New Zealand and he thought it was a fantastic idea. He told me that I continue to surprise him. So, I thought I would make his day. I pulled out a 3 ring binder in which I had clear sheet envelopes each holding all of my original documents; birth cert., marriage, divorce, qualifications, references etc. I believe there were 16 documents in all. I told him that I needed 6 certified copies of each original. His face dropped and he said "Shell, you know much I hate doing those "explitive" bloody documents (there were over 25 documents for my son's adoption). I told him he just needed to put his little stamp on it. So, he invited me to come by his office and I could sit there and stamp all of the copies myself and stick them under his nose one by one and tell him to sign them and that it would cost me a lunch.

He didn't charge me for certifying any of the adoption documents and I know he won't charge me for the Immigration documents. It is just great knowing that someone is going to help allevaite some of the stress involved in making such a huge move.

I just thought this was a nice little "clean" story to share and as I haven't had any juicy dreams lately...oh well, every night can't be a Dave night.

What a great guy, Shell Nice to know there are still people in this world who will go out of their way to help you, instead of ripping you off at every available opportunity.

There are various stories that we could tell about similar experiences in NZ but i won't bore you with those now Suffice to say, the majority of NZ'ers are prepared to do favours to help you out, even professionals. We've had such experiences with car sales people, real estate people & sales people in shops, to name a few.

A touch of community spirit never goes amiss

Sounds like a good chat up line, if you ask me.

It goes some way to helping to restore one's faith in human nature. Good for him (and even better for you ).
