The whole thing smacks of control. They may well pass it off and dress it up as well-meaning, but there comes a time when Daddy will have to let go and what then? The daughter will either be inextricably tied to one guy (which is a good thing if he's a decent sort) because she'll be terrified of stepping outside of his Daddy-like protective control or she'll go crazy at finally being let off the leash.

Young girls need to have some exposure to the opposite sex, so that they can develop social skills in dealing with them. In that way they can try to decide which are the good types and which are the bad, thereby building up confidence. If you've never had the exposure, how are you to know which is which, until it's too late?

It's a bit like parents who do their utmost to protect their child from dirt and germs. The child builds up no immunity and their bodies can't deal with it when they eventually come into contact with the realities of our germ-filled world.

The original article paints a picture of young girls who are pampered, cosseted and put on a pedestal, as long as they are tied to Daddy's control, but that's not what real life is about. There will come a time when they marry and the way they are treated by their husbands may be quite different to what they've been used to. They simply won't have been prepared for what's in store for them.

I'd be worried, very worried.
