Default Sold the house at last - renting in anticipation

Hey y'all, sorry I've been away for so long - bet you haven't even missed me :(

Well, we are actually out of the house now, yep, it's taken 2 years to sell it and nearly 3 months for the deal to be completed but it's gone. [smiley=041.gif]

It was so stressful! We were told would only be 5 weeks to complete because only 3 people in the chain and we weren't buying just selling. It's taken 13 weeks with each week bringing a new nightmare. How on earth do people go through selling, packing and emigrating all at the same time? Don't think I could cope.

Anyway, we're in this rental now (with broadband installed at last) until June 07 and then we'll be hot-footing our way over to join you all. Just a case of giving the landlord a months notice, flogging all our worldly possessions and purchasing plane tickets, sounds easy enough doesn't it - but then that's what we thought about selling the house too!

Good to be back [smiley=006.gif] [smiley=006.gif]

Dawn, great to hear your news after all that stress and doubt . Welcome back to the fold. I sure missed you, for one, and, in fact, I miss the whole ?gang? feel to the forum with some of the old crew having sadly disappeared into the bush.

I bet it?s a weight off your mind, not having to worry about the house sale any more. You can settle back and enjoy what?s left of your time in the UK, knowing that you?ve got one big obstacle out of the way now.

Hope you?re comfy in your rental and the way forward will be a little clearer now. 2007 will be quite a year for you all. Lovely to have something so momentous to look forward to.

Wishing you all the very best for the rest of the adventure of immigrating to NZ.

Yay! [smiley=038.gif] What a complete and utter relief it must be for you to have finally sold the house. Life must have been so stressful for you.

I know that when we moved to NZ, I felt so p1ssed off with the UK housing market that I felt quite happy living in rented accomodation for ever more. Indeed, I probably could not afford to buy the house I'm renting plus I don't have to pay any maintenance, rates or gardening costs. The freedom of just giving a month's notice and taking off is just wonderful ... which is something I gather you are feeling now. (Of course, I am now going into property ownership again, [smiley=icon_rolleyes.gif] but that is another story.)

After the house sale everything else is bound to be a doddle, and June will soon be here!
:)

Ta muchly everyone, good to be back!!
Glenda this renting lark does have a kind of freedom feel about it doesn't it - but somewhere in the back of my mind I know it's false. We've paid 6 months rental upfront and our outgoings have dropped from ?2000 a month to virtually nothing, we feel liberated but it's all swings and roundabouts isn't it? So far we've resisted the temptation to spoil ourselves except that we've booked a holiday to Disneyland Florida over Christmas! We figure we'll only the opportunity to do it once in a lifetime without getting ourselves into a mountain of debt so we've taken the plunge and let's face it, it'll be a Christmas everyone'll remember. A little extravagance we'd never have imagined being able to entertain before, that may sound pompous and I don't mean it to. I literally am overwhelmed at being able to give my kids this privilege.

Anyways, you got it right, feel like a weight is off my shoulders and that we're a good few steps closer to achieving our goal.

Sure hope we can all arrange a good old get together when we're over there!!!! :D

I'm glad your house-selling ordeal is over, Dawn. I think I'd go nuts with such a long wait before going over, especially the packing, unpacking and repacking.

Have fun in Florida. Some day I'd like to go see Cape Canaveral and the Everglades, but just haven't moved that trip to the top of my list.
