A new one on me was to describe something as having 'Turned to Custard', which seems to mean the same as 'Gone Pear-Shaped', as in broken, bent or gone belly-up. I did chuckle the first few times I heard that one.

The first time my partner said he was "stuffed" one evening after a long day at work, I asked him why he ate so much after working so hard. I didn't know "stuffed" meant tired, not overly full from eating.

Default Kiwi talk

In Australia we grin about the Kiwi who orders in the take-away "SEX pieces of Fesh and Cheps"

It's funny you know, cos when we lived in the UK, we never realised there was any difference between the Oz & Kiwi accent - they were both the same to us! It's only now we've been here a while, that we've realised they are actually quite different - and that there's even regional Kiwi accents!

I still find it funny that an Ozzie finds a Kiwi accent amusing

A lot of those words are used in other countries. Almost all in Australia, some in the UK, some elsewhere.....

Roots are still roots.

That's where the slang came from - think of how a root in a garden works and you can see why the term is used to mean something else.

It's one thing to talk about roots when you're gardening. But to say you are 'having a root' is another thing entirely.

Default Here's another one!

My partner went to visit an old friend, who happens to be female. He sent me a text message that said he was "in bed with a hottie" but would have preferred it be me instead. Well, here in the US, a "hottie" is a very sexy woman. Needless to say, I was a tad upset. I thought this was going to be the end of our relationship, then and there. Then I thought, maybe I should look and see if this means something else.

Yep, I was being compared to a hot water bottle!
