Default What a way to raise funds

NO! [smiley=icon_eek.gif]

When I had Lauren in 1991, I had a really hard time and lost a lot of blood. When I finally came round they told me that I needed to have a transfusion of around 5 pints. I was terrified. AIDS hadn't long been in the headlines, everyone was thinking twice about what they were doing or had done and when I asked the nursing staff if they could guarantee me that the blood they gave me was clear they said no. Can you imagine? 21 years old, 2 days after having my first baby, half the amount of blood in my body I'm supposed to have so finding it hard to even find enough oxygen to breathe let alone move about and the professional staff are telling me they cannot guarantee I won't get AIDS if I have this transfusion I so desparately need. I was thinking I was gonna get infected and then pass it to my baby or die young and leave her without a mother - God it was really hard. They said if I didn't have the transfusion it would take about 6 months for me to make that amount of red blood cells back again and that I wouldn't be able to exert myself at all. (Now if you knew me you would know that that is impossible, if I am bed-ridden for more than a half day I'm ready to maul someones face off). I had it in the end, insisting they tested me for HIV asap and spent the days in between worrying myself sick and being terrified for my baby girls future. It was awful!!

So, Stevey - if I knew it was coming from a prostitute with even more chance of carrying some infectious disease I think I'd insist they gave me someone elses. But it makes you wonder doesn't it because I'm sure there must be men and women alike who are blood donors who do their share of sleeping around, y know prostitution without payment, someone different each night of the week and still give blood every 6 months. God! [smiley=icon_eek.gif]

hehe you say no, but with that worry before you said yes in the end, although it was terrible.

Pretty sure that's nonsense tho, they'd have to test it before they gave it surely they were just covering their asses. Unless the laws have changed. Don't tell me they don't let you have baths without non slip bumps on them but they'll readily pump a load of HIV blood into you if you need a transfusion. [smiley=icon_eek.gif]

Anyway that was an extreme example of what this event is, as it does nothing but raise money that isn't infected with anything, it can't be that apalling.
