Default If James can talk about his nightmares ...

;)

... can anyone help with a really annoying and 'spazzy' problem?

I've got a tune going round and round my head ... its been there for about six/seven days and won't go away. ::)

It's Ravell's Bolero and it is weird as I am pretty sure I have not heard it on TV recently, or on the radio ... in fact I don't think I've heard it since that Olympics with Torvill and Dean ice-skating.

(Read that Ravell was possibly going mad when he composed it ... beginning to wonder if it was the other way round.)

Hmm, I'm not sure if I was alive then. Was that the 1932 Olympics? ;)

Could the song have been in one of Charlie Chaplin's blockbusters? If so, I might........nope, sorry.

Well, it could be worse, Glenda. I quite like that tune.

I've had the same thing happen to me many times (although it wasn't Ravell's Bolero) and it's enough to drive you dotty, I know. Perhaps you did hear it in the background one day, but thought you'd tuned it out, yet it's remained in your subconscious. 6 or 7 days is rather a long time though. Mine usually lasts about 3 days. If it's really bothering me I try to change the one tune for another to 'wean' myself off it.

If you start to write posts like James and Stevey, we'll know your worries about Ravell going crazy whilst composing it were right.

Blooming cheek of you, James. [smilie=Angry_club.gif] I've got a real problem here! [smiley=045.gif] [smiley=icon_wink.gif] [smiley=icon_lol.gif]

I've tried replacing the tune with another, Mother Bear, but it does not work. [smiley=icon_confused.gif]

I think it may have started with the current 'spat' in the Middle East ... my nutty brain comparing Bolero's repetition with yet another crisis in the Middle East; but I am not sure.

If my posts get like James and Stevey's ... you will let me know won't you Mother Bear? Break the news gently? [smiley=icon_sad.gif]

Glenda, we've recently had a programme over here (yes, another one) about celebrities i.e. lots of people from soap operas, learning to ice skate and then competing against one another, they used it on that I think. Torvill and Dean were the trainers you see, fantastic recipe for a fab programme isn't it? Do you see how cleverly it all fits together? (Not even a hint of sarcasm honestly).

Don't suppose you've managed to pick that up or a trailer for it on Sky or something? It could have just been on and you be in another room and hear it, you know, subconsciously, without realising you're taking it in. :icon_question:

No Dawn, there has been no such showing or preview of a programme like that here ... any programmes on UKTV have to be 10 years old at least. ::)

Guess I could have picked it up somewhere ... can't be the supermarket 'cause they like to use 1970's music. The problem is with getting rid of it. It is even worse now because I've just found a site and played part of it to my kids who were wondering what I was talking about. [smilie=Fool!.gif]

Ah, well.

Have you considered chanting Hindu fashion? Ommmmmm. Whenever your tune starts up, begin chanting to block out the sound. Apart from blocking the sound, there are other benefits.

The Power of Chanting Om
The chanting of Om drives away all worldly thoughts and removes distraction and infuses new vigour in the body.
When you feel depressed, chant Om fifty times and you will be filled with new vigour and strength. The chanting of Om is a powerful tonic. When you chant Om, you feel you are the pure, all pervading light and consciousness.
Those who chant Om will have a powerful, sweet voice. Whenever you take a stroll, you can chant Om. You can also sing Om in a beautiful way. The rythmic pronunciation of Om makes the mind serene and pointed, and infuses the spiritual qualifications which ensure self-realization.
Those who do meditation of Om daily will get tremendous power. They will have lustre in their eyes and faces.

Hubster's away now for a while in the desert so I might just give it a go myself, as I'll be totally on my own for that time so there's no one to call up the men in white coats (or maybe it's white dresses here). Might alarm the cats, but they don't know how to use the phone.

Have you been on the Harae Khrishna (sp?) site, Mother Bear? [smiley=icon_wink.gif] [smiley=005.gif]You know, I just might give it a try. [smiley=icon_eek.gif]

The tune is still going on. Bit louder at the moment ... probably due to some stress over divorce matters.

Wonder if I can pass on this malady? Those who dare go to http://www.edu-negev.gov.il/tapuz/mo...boleroclip.htm

Right, I?ve done the deed and watched (and enjoyed) the video, so now I?ll wait and see if it?s infectious enough to linger in my memory long enough to haunt me. If it does, I hope I wouldn?t mind too much, as it?s a lot better than some of the rubbish that floats around in my brain. It?s quite a stirring tune when it gets going.

In reality Glenda, you could be accused of trying to pass on an infectious disease, which could spread like wildfire and find us all wandering around humming away to ourselves.

No, I haven?t been lurking on the Hari Krishna site. I just did a Google for ?Om?, had a quick look around and shot back out again. Didn?t want to pick up any more strange habits. Don?t know why the ?Om? thing occurred to me. Probably just thinking of replacing one sound for another. I?d forgotten that I?d posted about the ?Om?s so had a go this morning. The cats seem to prefer it to my whistling and I quite like the sensation. If it has any beneficial side effects, all the better.

Haha. I love you gals

And on a similiar note, if you've been in Welly, you may have had this little song stuck in your head:

Harbour city your a friend of mine. There's no better place to be.

94.1 The Breeze.
