Note: Al Sheepa doesn't 'really' exist. It's me and 40 million sheep, and I'm protecting them from being stolen from NZ.......well, if my lil group grows in popularity I'll consider running for political office. And then from there, world domination......but I'm getting ahead of myself [smiley=icon_wink.gif]
Maybe you should consider branching out to protect the cows as well, it seems like they need protection at the moment...

Camera catches farmer interfering with cows
21 June 2006
By RICHARD WOODD

Police installed a concealed video camera to get evidence of a Taranaki farm manager violently interfering with a dairy cow when the herd came in for milking.

The surveillance was done because of repeated cow deaths and abortions from internal infections, which the farm owners estimate has cost them more than $100,000.

The farm manager Rameez Kahn Kerry (21), Manaia, pleaded guilty in the Hawera District Court yesterday to six charges of wilfully mistreating cows between September 2004 and March 2006.

He was convicted and remanded by Judge Louis Bidois to July 4 for sentence.

Prosecutor Mark Wilton said Kerry's duties included day-to-day running of the farm, responsibility for stock health and welfare, and milking. In September, while Kerry was on three weeks leave, the owners called in a vet to examine sick cows. Three were diagnosed with peritonitis and one of them had to be put down.

Peritonitis was caused by damage to the uterus and was usually caused by a tear during calving.

The infection could spread through the reproductive tract, affect fertility and lead to death.

Over the 2005-06 milking season,

19 cows died. Some were put down, some were found dead. In five cases, peritonitis was confirmed as the cause of death.

At that point, the complainants, police and vets were unsure about the source, because the deaths were from various causes.

In September 2005, three cows were found dead on the tanker track. The farmers were upset and could not understand what was going on. They informed the police and asked the chief executive of the Manaia Vet Group to investigate.

The number of peritonitis cases was abnormal and his opinion was that the injuries were caused by insertion of some foreign object into the rectum or vagina. The farmers questioned Kerry about this and he denied sticking any foreign objects into cows.

But cows continued to die. In late January 2006, the farmers decided they would have autopsies done on any cows that died.

On March 28, a vet pregnancy tested the herd, and found that 33 cows were empty. Of those, nine had unusual internal scarring, caused by peritonitis. A further eight cows were diagnosed with peritonitis and treated.

On March 29 an apparently healthy cow died. The autopsy disclosed peritonitis and the vet said it was caused by something being rammed up the rectum so hard the gut wall was perforated.

The gut of a cow is so muscular it is very hard to damage.

The police then decided to install a video camera at the milking shed to film the defendant during milking. The tape replay showed Kerry using a piece of alkathene pipe more than a metre long to interfere with the cow.

'The video showed the defendant committing an act of violence, physically and forcefully abusing the cow,' Mr Wilton said.

Kerry was questioned on March 30. When confronted with the video evidence, he admitted injuring this cow and one other, but denied being responsible for any other injuries or abuse.

No models (or sheep) were harmed in the shameless retouching of this photo:

No, I don't think that'll do. It'd never pass for James's bum and you'd be doing Dawn out of the pleasure of counting the spots on his bum.

If it is, you've got a problem, James. Either that or you'll have all the male members on the forum rushing to ask what skin cream you use that keeps your cheeks so baby-smooth. We won't go into why you're that rather fetching shape though.

Come to think of it and upon second glance, is that first bum a male or female bum? I thought it was male as it looks a bit rough, but the waist seems to narrow remarkably like a female's would.

We had a kitten like that once (no, I don?t mean it had a baby-smooth bum or even a rough spotty one). We couldn?t tell if it was male or female so we called it Eeshee (he/she), which evolved into Izee (is he) and on to Rizzy. Can?t remember now if we ever did find out what it was.

[smiley=icon_lol.gif] Sorry, I didn't examine the bum closely. I quickly moved past the picture.

Thanks for doing the detective work for me MB!!
